The Fusker buyout is not the reason Freddy will never coach again at Iowa State. Hoiberg wanting to coach at schools like Minnesota and Nebraska, rather than his alma mater, is.
Never said that, said we are not getting him now with the buyout. I truly think there was some truth to the Hines story. I see no way Fred and Pollard get along.

I agree we need to dream big, but you cannot tell me it is logical to pull Fred from Nebby when they have a buyout like they do. It's like buying a vehicle you cannot currently afford.
And especially one that has damages.

Fred doesn't have the same cache as he did 5 years ago. He is damaged goods.

I'm on the Prohm isn't getting it done bandwagon now. I never thought this team was going to be amazing to start the year. Now after watching Nixon, Bolton, Young, and Jacobson play this first month; it's apparent that this team is pretty much trash. So, I guess my disappointment isn't a big as others on here.

I 100% think Prohm will be back next year, but if Tyrese bails I'm not going to be high on that team either and missing 2 straight NCAA's will be unacceptable. I still give him a pass on 17-18, but these players are now his. IMHO, this year is ****** and I don't see a point guard on next years team that will be any good. This years freshman class having two guys bail also speaks volumes.

Bobby Petrino minus the next brace problems or ex cheated but your still willing to take her back problems?

His luster is off due to the Bulls performance and firing. He is no longer the new shiny object that he was 5 years ago.

That he landed at Nebraska (vs UCLA, another NBA team, etc) is all you need to know.

Agreed, I think he truly wants to be in the Midwest. Plus, as much as I hate Nebby, Fred is sitting on a what could be a sleeping giant. He has new facilities, money, and a fan base that is one of the most passionate in college athletics. At least I would think fans would show up if he turns it around.

OK. My point is that the Nebby buyout is a non-factor as Hoiberg has signaled that he does not want to be here.
Agree with you on the Hines story. I always thought there was something to it even though it was severely panned on CF.

Defeatist attitudes like this confuse me. We need to dream big as a program. We need bold leadership and we shouldn’t settle for a lesser basketball program to save a few bucks. We shouldn’t be too intimidated by Nebraska of all programs.

From what I've heard Hoiberg doesn't want to come back to ISU. Granted, time may change things but there's a reason he left (besides the NBA).

It's nothing bad, it's just he gets a lot of attention in Ames and I think it wore on him.

That story was always right. It’s just that a bunch of fans wouldn’t accept it.

The premise of the story had some merit. But "nearly double digit sources" is still laughable.

Absolutely. That many "sources" without a single one willing to go on the record, for a story as trivial as the relationship between a coach and AD, is a big red flag. As is the fact that one of the subjects of the story was on the radio within hours to vehemently deny it.

I'm sure there was some friction. I do not believe it drove Fred away.

Man, I wish people would stop with the Hoiberg stuff. First, it wasn’t that great. Yes, he turned us around but he literally had a lineup of 5 NBA players and didn’t do much with them. And don’t give me the “Niang’s injury bullsh*t.” We had plenty of head-scratching losses with him. Fred’s ceiling at ISU isn’t much higher than Steve’s.

Second, Fred wanted out. That should tell you all you need to know. Time to let it go.

Oh BS it wasn’t that great. It was one helluva run rebuilding our program from a bottom feeder, achieving consistent success, then handing off a Top 10 roster to the next coach.

Don’t attempt to minimize those great years for the ISU program and fans because you are bitter he left or attempting to talk yourself into feeling good about the job Prohm has done with the program.

I don’t think anyone doubted there was friction between Pollard and Hoiberg. It was that Hines couldn’t find a real story to spill the gossip. Instead he attached it to a non-story and supported it with “near double digit sources”. It was a hack job.

This. Fred isn't coming back. Fans need to get over it. He was shopping NBA jobs for 2 years before he took the Bulls job. He built this program to benefit ISU and himself. It seems like both were an amazing fit and have both struggled since he has left. He is just not coming back to Ames to coach.

Meh. If I had been one of those sources and still needed a job in the AD, I wouldn't go on the record. That's just asking for trouble.
