Starting OL for 2020

Average OL do not get better - they just get more snaps. Look at current fiasco - now that we don’t have CPR players to blame whatever shall we do! All CMC now - so no more hiding behind the process!
What planet do you live on? Of course college football players get better with experience. Duh.

And this group had to improve just to reach some semblance of “average” as seniors. Stupid post all around. Has to be a Hawk troll.

I’ll reiterate, I’ll be fairly surprised if Treiber starts at right tackle.

To complement that statement, I’ll say that I’ll be equally surprised if Ramos starts at left tackle.

And nether statement is because I don’t have faith in either player.

So who do you think the starting tackles will be?

I hope they have players that are more experienced that can step into those spots... don't like the idea of two relatively young, inexperienced players moving into the starting tackle spots (even though I am hopeful that both will be good starters at some point). But, if I am going by the guys on the roster today, that is what I would guess. Hope they get some transfers (JC and / or Grad) and Ramos, Treiber get another year to develop. If not, could be a season of growing pains on the line.

I see what you did there;)

I’ve been a Cyclone fan a long time. Karl Nelson was a freshman All American at left tackle in a competitive Big 8, and I seem to recall that Keith Sims did well as a freshman as well.

For a more contemporary take, I don’t recall anyone having any complaints about Trevor Downing’s performance this season, and there are about a half dozen “new” guys next Fall who will have the same amount of experience as he had at the same point.

Spring ball will be interesting!

The OL is a great situation for a grad transfer, if there are some good ones ISU has a lot to sell! Maybe DT as well.

Hey guys, an Indiana poster on a big ten board mentioned Coy Cronk was likely coming to ISU.

Multi-year starter at LT, got hurt early this year, and word is the staff asked him to move to G next year as they like the kid who replaced him at LT.

Haven't seen much about this elsewhere but thought I'd pass it along.

Thanks for the info, we definitely have a need for him.

Definitely has plenty of size and experience. Started all 4 years until he got hurt early this season. Also looks like he played left tackle which seems to be the most wide open spot unless Treiber is ready. Thanks for the info.

The guy is pretty good. Assuming Wirfs leaves early, I would take him at RT in Iowa City next year.

Awesome! He would fit in here perfectly and start right away. Our tackle groups looks a lot better if we can add just one guy like him.

If the above is accurate, this is the kid they like better than Cronk. He was a true freshman last season, a three star recruit.

Exactly what we need. Ramos to RT. Gives Treiber and Remsberg a second year to develop instead of getting thrown to the fire.

If Kolar returns and Hutchinson is as good as advertised the offense may be set.

Would be great to get a grad transfer for the OL. Would be better if we could get him this week....

My Prediction:
LT: Ramos (All, but a lock)
LG: Downing (LOCK)
C: Newell (Lock)
RG: Hudson (All, but a lock)
RT: Foster

This prediction can obviously change if we get a good grad transfer or one of our own decides to transfer.

The right side is the biggest question mark. I do not see the coaching staff shifting Downing and Newell around; however, the other guys could move anywhere.

We have been hearing Hudson's name for years. I think he gets the nod at RG.

Right tackle is tough. There are three names: Foster, Hufford and Treiber. I don't think Remsburg, Kleinow or any of the freshman will be ready to go by this time. I think Foster gets the nod. Treiber is the much better talent, but I think he's a hair behind Foster. That depth chart can change VERY fast.

And yes, Foster will be the first one replaced if we get a transfer

Has Hudson been in at all in his career? I know he is a big guy, and that they have spent a lot of time working on getting his pad level down, but don't recall him getting snaps.
