Star Wars Expanded Universe Thread

The first episode of S3 Mando just felt so....Disney-fied to me. I guess I just like the grittier side of Star Wars. Comparing episode 1 of S1 where Mando chops a dude in half compared to what I just watched, felt like 2 different shows. It really felt like they were at Star Wars Disneyland when at Navarro. The editing seemed choppy, a few times I saw characters mouths moving but nothing being said. I get it's a set up episode, but for now not feeling it too much.

I think the thing they were showing at Navarro was the prosperity of the city without former empire and other dictator like control. Basically, when corruption is reduced, a community can thrive.

I get it, I think they just went too far with it.

S3E1 did feel a bit cartoonish, especially the space pirates, but with it kinda being the flagship show, they might be wanting a slightly broader and younger appeal than Andor. It almost seemed like I was watching the prequels.

I think this season is going to have plenty of action as they have the war to reclaim Mandalore

What if Grogu ends up being able to wield the darksaber?
I was thinking this as well, I wonder if he's essentially the second coming of Mand'alor. But I'm not sure what's canon anymore regarding the founding of mandalorians

I just have this vision on mando beaten down and someone with a lightsaber ready to do him in, and then all of a sudden here's Grogu using his force training and wielding the darksaber. Its a little big for his hands but lets not worry about that small detail.

In a sense, series storytelling on the Mouse+ may simply suit the Star Wars universe much better now than trying to tell an epic story in 2 hours in a theater. The movies are just a huge focal point for demanding fans with limited time when hitting singles and doubles without as much controversy can be as profitable as long as they can continue to generate it at a pace that keeps us nerds paying for the service.

Marvel has the opposite problem, where it has been built around characters with their own movies and ensemble films in a way that sort of needs to be self perpetuating. Marvel's original content on Disney+ has failed to find an audience in the way the SW shows have. The simpler superhero story arc formula just plays out better in a film than the detailed worldbuilding of a Star Wars series.

I would say I really think getting shows on D+ saved Star Wars. It's much better suited for a weekly series I think than something like Marvel. Generally speaking I've really liked all of the SW series and I haven't really been able get into the Marvel series as much (I'm probably in the minority with that). On the other hand those Ray and Kylo Ren movies were meh where as the Marvel movies in that time frame have been pretty good.

Great episode. The ending was amazing! Love love loved it.

That 44 minutes only seemed like 15.

You can also see the difference in the ability to wield a certain weapon. There’s gotta be some meaning to that.

Watched the latest Bad Batch between Big12 games. One of the best of the season. Painful and also beautifully written

Alright, that episode is really cool and my theory about Grogu might be right, because there’s only one way to tame it like Mand’alor did
