In a sense, series storytelling on the Mouse+ may simply suit the Star Wars universe much better now than trying to tell an epic story in 2 hours in a theater. The movies are just a huge focal point for demanding fans with limited time when hitting singles and doubles without as much controversy can be as profitable as long as they can continue to generate it at a pace that keeps us nerds paying for the service.
Marvel has the opposite problem, where it has been built around characters with their own movies and ensemble films in a way that sort of needs to be self perpetuating. Marvel's original content on Disney+ has failed to find an audience in the way the SW shows have. The simpler superhero story arc formula just plays out better in a film than the detailed worldbuilding of a Star Wars series.
Imho it’s just the creative team.
If the people behind Mando and Andor had made sequel trilogy and people behind sequels had made tv series fans might be thinking exact opposite.
The thing that does make me want to agree with you is how feature films more often now pander to lowest common denominator of movie goer and sometimes growing foreign audiences whose tastes are questionable at best. I get to see the sausage made pretty early on some movies for my job and the times where there’s a true artistic genius at work are pretty obvious vs just a quest for box office.
The 90s X-Men cartoon is a brilliant translation of what was the most popular hero comic book up to that point. It’s 100ish episodes if you can focus on story vs 90s tv animation quality. Good writing throughout taken from good comics writers, sometimes the same exact writers.
