Spring Practice??

Chizik did not show any respect for the legacy of Iowa State...the football players of the past. Former great George Amundson stopped by our tailgate and said Mac always welcomed and honored former players, but that had changed under Chizik. I'm confident Rhoads will give former players the respect they are due...GREAT TO HAVE YOU ON BOARD, AF. YOU WERE ALL HEART ON THE FIELD, AND SHOWED THE BEST OF IOWA STATE!!

Welcome Austin! Hope you can make it up for a game sometime!

The general consensus is Paul Rhoads definitely has what it takes to get this program back on track. I echo what others have said, I've never heard a bad word about him. He's definitely got some McCarney in him, which this program desperately needs right now, after the past two years...

Coach Rhoads is already ahead of his predecessor in that he hired coordinators that appear to have good credentials, instead of hiring his buddies. I can't wait to see what Tom Herman can do with our offense. We have decent talent on the offensive side of the ball that will hopefully be put to good use.

However, Rhoads has his work cut out for him with the defense.

I really cant wait to see what Wally can do with our D that struggled last year!

I'm excited to be on board here. I've heard nothing but great things on Coach Rhoads and his staff. Once again I am excited about the next 2-3 years when Coach gets to bring in his own guys and implement his philosophy fully. It may take a little time.

My little boy already has Cyclone gear in his closet when he gets here! Bleedin CARDINAL! MNclone I will see what I can do...hahaha!

JT Tailgater...I sent my resume to Coach Chizik right before he left for Auburn. I would love to Coach one day at Iowa State...DREAM JOB. It's going to be a long time before that ever happens. Hopefully I can become a head coach down here soon and make my way up to the college ranks and eventually to ISU.

Shop Talk...thanks for the info. I'll meet you up there hopefully one Saturday. Problem is that being a coach myself, we work on Saturday and game plan for the next week. That's why I can't make it back to any home games. I went back for the first time last fall against Missouri (FORGOT HOW COLD IT IS IN IOWA) and enjoyed every minute of it...although it wasn't a pretty game.

Ya'll thanked me for staying but I just wanted to thank ya'll for everything. I tell everyone all the time around here how great Iowa people really are. I could raise my family in Iowa and love it (just can't get my wife to take on the snow!) If I could do it all over again I'de do the same thing but just move to receiver a little quicker....THANKS again and excited to talk football with some IOWA STATE die hards! GO CLONES!

To echo all of the other sentiments, thanks for your time here and from your above response hopefully future time too. Good luck too on you upcoming season. Just make sure to let Rhoads know of any playmakers you may have. Congrats on the boy, parenthood is great (a boy and girl for me now).
As for Rhoads, I think his passion is enthusing and his formation of his staff was a pleasant surprise. I think we have the talent to surprise folks next year if the transition can go smoothly. AA is going to be a great QB and leader for this team the next two years.

I believe this will be the last year for two of the grad assistants, so maybe the year after that....

Austin, I think the thing that made so many of us respect you were the middle of the field routes you ran as WR. Just watching you run those we all saw you get just hammered on some tackles. You would get up and flip the ball to the ref and get ready for it again. Just seeing the amount of work you put into some of those 7 yard gains, you will have my eternal gratitude as a fan forever. We all look forward to seeing you affiliated here sometime in the future.

I wasn't that cold. I think my hands are finally thawing out :wideeyed:

Austin,

Congrats to you on your marriage & soon to be Cyclone son!!!

I remember sitting in the stands & watching you challenge the middle of the field for a pass knowing you're going to get hit.
The group I sit with in the stadium always said, if we had to go down a dark alley & had only one person to take with us, it would be Austin Flynn, because you were as tough as nails!

I also remember how great you were with the young kids after the game. I would bring my daughter back to see the players come out of the locker room & when the kids came up to you, you were always willing to put a smile on their faces (my daughter still has her autographed football & Cyclone shirt you signed). Even before you would go over & see your folks (who are great Cyclones as well, driving up to Ames for all of your games). I had the pleasure of meeting your mom & dad & they were wonderful people.

Thanks for all the great memories!!!
