Soccer and sex?

Aside from your misogyny and homophobia this is pretty funny. By your logic, if god had intended that we play sports with bats and gloves we'd have been born with a club or a glove for one hand.

And pads growing out of our shoulders or maybe just bones strong enough to never break.

there's nothing beautiful about watching 22 fairies run around for 90 minutes to play to a 0-0 tie.

If God intended us to play sports with just our feet we'd walk on our hands.

You know what would make soccer watchable? Cut the field in half and hide land mines all over the field.
Someone has some pent up aggression and a bit of over compensation.

You use hands in soccer, and head, thighs, chest, abs.

I'd say it's hard to play any pro sports with zero natural talent. Some sports harder than others.

I'm not saying it's more difficult to play soccer an elite level than it is baseball at an elite level. All I'm saying is you'd have no clue as whether that's true or not. I'd like to know what your soccer background is. I'm sure you were awesome when you were 8.

It is the World's sport for a reason. It's just too bad that there are some in America who refuse to support it because if you do then you are teh gayz or apparently a hipster. There is never any homoerotic actions in baseball, football, or basketball such as butt patting, jumping on top of a pile of men, man-hugs, etc.

All these baseball fans spout off about soccer every chance they get because it is a coping skill. I believe that they know "America's Past Time" is dying and is probably still around only due to two steroid abusing muscle heads that cheated an entire fan base and history of this once popular game in the late 90's.

soccer > baseball...in popularity and watch ability....if you have a favorite soccer team (mine is arsenal) it's fun cheering for your team as the games mean more then the mlb (162 games...really?).

Also there are in-season tournaments which are awesome as every team is invited (the equivalent of minor league teams in england play in the top tournaments).

There's a reason futbol (soccer) is the most popular sport in the world. It's not becuase of the country's economics but because it's a very fun sport to watch and the rivalries kill the UNC-Duke, Yankees- Red Sox, and others.

To the person who said soccer isn't athletic...play a 90 minute match then come back here..it's constant action, no breaks like football and/or baseball..it also hurts the image as in the 90 minutes there will have to be some dull moments, most of it is strategy.

In summary, haters gonna hate, though the world knows soccer is king.

The reason we have opposable thumbs is to play football. Proof god was a football fan! :policeman:

I don't see soccer ever being more popular than football, basketball, or baseball in this country. I also couldn't really care less what sport is most popular in other countries.

1. It's not just baseball fans that say soccer sucks. It's 80% of America.
2. Whoever said MLB is dying and MLS is rising...I'm still laughing. I agree MLB is dying, but MLS will never reach MLB fandom. And I'd say MLS hasn't been improving their fandom either. Not many people can name 2 MLS teams.

Since we're going down this hijacked path here is my analogy re: soccer in the States.

I love soccer. I played in HS and in college, and coached at the HS level. I love Manchester United. And I am never more passionate than when the USMNT plays in the World Cup. I think anyone who knows me would not dispute my soccer bona fides.

However, I see soccer in the States like Tim Tebow. People who love soccer (or love Tim Tebow) spend soooo much of their time telling other people why they should also love soccer (or Tim Tebow) that they end up having the opposite affect, and people end up hating soccer (or Tim Tebow) more than they would have had they never been told why soccer (or Tim Tebow) is the greatest thing in the history of the world.

In short, I think people hate "soccer guy" (or "Tim Tebow guy") more than they actually hate soccer (or Tim Tebow).

End rant.

OK, I know this was 5 pages ago, but THIS x 1000.

I did not play soccer growing up. I got a soccer ball for a childhood gift, and it was just a ball to me. I didn't care about soccer, and probably still wouldn't, if most soccer fans weren't so f'ing annoying. My nephews come over to my house, grab the remote, and turn the channel to soccer. OK, that's my f'ing TV....you don't just turn the channel to anything without asking because that's rude, but holy ******, there's a soccer match on. Their mother tried teaching my son to say 'I play soccer'...he's 21 months.

Let's compare it to football. There are a lot of people who aren't into football. A lot of them because they 'don't understand all the rules'. When confronted with this, most football fans will either offer to teach you about the game (if they care about you), or explain that it's not that difficult to understand if you really watch for a while, or just shrug and walk away. When confronted with someone who's not into soccer, a lot of soccer fans go into cult recruiting mode and pull out the 'world's most popular sport' stuff. I don't care, I'm not into it, leave me alone.

If you cut that crap out, most soccer haters would go back to just not caring.

Heh...most soccer fans I know would do the same thing. Sports fans are passionate people. I think that football fans are generally not confronted with people who already hate the game- maybe they are just ignorant and don't care..etc. Soccer fans are confronted by people who hate the game, and therefore go into defensive mode trying to defend something they love. It is not a 'quality of person' thing, just the context in which the matter generally comes up!

Do you want me to teach you the rules to soccer some time?

Wow, is Angie going to have to come in and clean up all of the hate in this thread too? :jimlad:

Seriously, I don't understand how so many big sports fans like me can hate certain sports so much. I can find interest in just about any sport. Heck, I learned to like watching baseball in my 30's. You know what the problem was? I understood it, but didn't really understand all of the intricate strategies and nuances of the game. Once I did boring became beautiful. I like a good soccer game, but I still have more to learn.

This is also what I love about the Olympics every other year. It is a chance to watch sports I normally wouldn't and expand my sports horizons and knowledge. I guess I am a freak in this thread because I just love sports. I thought there were more of us on CF like that.
