Sims information

That's another one of the strange aspects. Supposedly she noticed the unauthorized charges and first contacted the stores asking them to preserve video tape of the purchases. She then called police.

The other is the fact that the people who claim to know the lady are saying the son didn't take the credit card, despite the fact police are on record confirming it was the son who was in possession of the card.

The info coming from those claiming to know the woman doesn't make sense based on information released by police.

Things are not adding up here.

Re: Not a lawyer..

and no knowledge of the situation. But in the case of Douglas and Bowman and the shenanigans with them using a credit card when they shouldn't have, it took a period of time from first investigating until charges were filed. Understanding was they were just making as sure of the facts as could be done.

I thought the Douglas and Bowman situation involved online transactions. This situation supposedly involves point of sale transactions. I'm guessing that difference is enough to make the two situations hard to compare when it comes to the investigation.

I believe the internet transactions created a federal investigation as well due to it crossing state lines. I haven't heard anything but Ames and Story county in this instance.

See this is how the whole off topic stuff starts. Theories turn into arguments which leads to name calling and comparisons to other situations and well what my school did is not as bad as what your school did. . .

I appreciate the fact that a new thread was started for those of us who want real info and not some off the wall made up story.

Thanks OP and keep this one ON TRACK PLEASE

chill out

That's what I understand as well.

I'm just curious as to exactly why or how they found their way from the stores/card to Sims? What's the link (don't think that info is out there)

So we could potentially go from a credit card felony to a buying gifts for an athlete...also a no no

Actually - I didn't think of that. Kid could've bought stuff for Sims. Mom sees other charges. Kid says it was stolen and/or fesses up and police get stuff from Sims' apartment.

Stretch - but possible I suppose. It would be an easy explanation of how they got from missing CC to Sims.

And it would only be a serious no-no if the kid or his mom were a booster, right?

Please try and be responsible in this thread fanatics. Throwing crap against the wall to see if it sticks is no good for anybody, especially Iowa State. Let's try and keep this respectable and about the topic at hand. Thanks in advance.

I'm with you 100% Chris. My hope was that this thread would be what we know about the case, not what we are speculating. I should have proofread my post and removed "rumors". It's fixed now.

I think this would be the worst case scenario...short of Sims setting off a dirty bomb in campustown.

Sorry I blew up. It just sucks that the other thread was derailed in so many ways from OWI, my school isnt as bad as yours blah blah.

You couldnt follow anything because you had to wade through so much crap.

I'm done posting now because I have not contributed anything, hopefully others will do the same

Whoops - sorry.

Although if we take rumors out - I'm not sure we have much to discuss.

It seems awfully quick to find someone based on the tape from the store especially in this case, the person uses someone else's credit card. So the tape might be the only link there. I'm not sure how recognized David Sims is in Ames that someone can look at the tape and recognize him.

How's that? Unless she's a booster or somehow connected to the program/school - I think it's probably the BEST case scenario. (well, aside from it all being a big misunderstanding ..... somehow)

Although I'm not a compliance officer.

He is both Big 12 defensive newcomer of the year and stud. Im sure he is well known enough in Ames to be identified in a video.

Make sense. I just thought if you're a student, probably you will recognize him, but not if you're a cop.

Oh feel free to post all the rumors you want but hopefully they have some information in them. I won't be updating the first post though unless the info is substantiated. Sorry for the confusion...I want to hear what the rumors are but won't be posting anything unless it's fact-ish. How's that for a clarification?

No, I completely agree with you. It's too easy on these boards for rumor to become "fact".

My questions really surround the son. How old is the kid? Does he have any connection to Sims or his roommate that are potentially involved? You never know what kind of scenarios could be involved here or any that have come to light. Am I the only one that finds this incredibly strange that no charges have been filed yet against Sims if the search warrant produced evidence against him? IMO it seems like there has to be something with the son that is slowing this process down and that is why charges have not been filed.
One needs to have patience, the Story Co. DA's office is usually very careful when evaluating evidence before bringing charges.
