Rhoads/FB Projects

My buddie's, son's girlfriend's mother's stepfather's cousin's barber's dentist who knows Marty heard it from his pilot's caretaker's brother's nephew, who once saw this guy at the store with a funny looking tie who told him that his buddy's friend's boss heard a rumor about it. So its gotta be true.
My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

I've always thought the team should come out of the ground from something like this....

A storm cellar would be fitting for the Cyclones!!!

Now that would be badass. Smoke coming from both directions.

I hope this is all correct !! Very cool! Really gets old when visitors come and tell us whole game You cyclones still play in a highschool stadium and blah blah blah!!Wish I could make a HUGE donation to it ! Cant wait !!!!!!Football !!!

I was wondering when this was going to come out. I know someone from one of the companies that didn't get the bid to design the project. My understanding (from the person at the design company) is that they are not going to be putting up the scoreboard this off-season because the new FB only building will need to be integrated into the design of the SB. So the FB only office, the scoreboard and bowling in of the end-zone will begin after next season. I don't want say they are going on the cheap but the end-zone part will be economical meaning they will probably use exposed structural steel to construction it instead of precast concrete. You still get the same dramatic effect from a looks standpoint but it keeps the cost down substantially. I can't tell you if the end-zone will include 2 levels but even if it is only one level it will be expandable for future needs. Huge deal for ISU FB and will at least catch us up with some of the programs in the Big 12 and allow us to compete from better recruits. Really excited to see the final design/renderings.

I don't think that the scoreboard part is accurate. CPR said at the Gridiron function that the new scoreboard may not be in for the first game, but it would be there this season. I don't know quite how it would be incorporated into a FB facility. The screen would basically be over the NW gate and that is IF the new building streched out that far. I guess it could be done, but it wouldn't jive with what CPR said.

Well good deal...I hope you are right. I would much rather have the scoreboard completed before (or during) next season. That alone will be a great upgrade to the look/feel of the stadium. The idea I was referring to must have been the idea of the company that didn't get the bid. The final design probably puts the FB only facility further away from the Jake which means it won't interfere with the scoreboard.

I really like the idea of a tunnel, and really, that's probably the most direct route from the new facility to JT anyway.

It would basically eliminate one additional hillside as well. Combine that with a new video/scoreboard over the Jake, and we would almost have an entirely enclosed stadium.

We already get enough crap about being cellar dwellers. I don't think we need to give anyone any more ammo.

New entrance:

Tornado warning siren played over the stadium sound system with rolling thunder sound effects. The jumbotron shows a thunderstorm rolling in, wind picking up, and a tornado dropping out of the clouds. Maybe have Thunderstruck playing in the background. The video would show students in conference opponents' gear watching the tornado and taking shelter. Maybe show a Bevo flying through the air Twister style. When the song gets to the line "You've been - Thunderstruck!" the team comes running out of the storm-cellar looking doors that are built into the NW hillside.

Cue Fight Song, coin toss, Cyclone victory.

Throw in some wacky, wavable, arm flailing tube men and we'd have an overproduced entrance.

have to admit....I would be really in favor of a tunnel in the NW corner. If you think about it, it would make a lot of sense. I am still confused about what is all going going to happen with the projects though. Donors? Plans? BOR?

I am stoked for all the renovations about to occur.

Perhaps the plan is to have the new locker rooms and coaches offices incorporated in with luxury boxes in the new south endzone structure. Theoretically the endzone could get bowled in without adding many more seats.

The bottom line is space needs to be taken up in the south endzone. Problem solved.

New scoreboard, sound system, and big boy stadium. Holy Cow! Those poor Jerkeye fans won't have much to complain about with JTS anymore.

I'm a little confused by the idea of tunnel coming from the NW corner. I'm not saying it would be a bad idea, but is it feasible? Wouldn't that totally disrupt the current walk way people use to get to their seats?

That's a pretty big hill right there, so I would assume any tunnel going through that area could be completely under the walkway. They'd probably have to demolish that hill to build said tunnel, but it could be rebuilt with walkway in tact after the tunnel is complete I would think.

I wonder about this too. I know back in the Gene Smith days, the plan was for stuff to go in the south endzone, freeing up space in the Jake/Olsen bldg for renvoations. Recently it had become apparent that the south endzone might be on hold for a while, so I think the AD decided it would be best to move on a separate FB only space and put it between the Jake and the IPF. It could get done independently of the endzone project.

Now, it appears that there might be funding to get everything done in a short time, so I wonder if the "let's put stuff in the south endzone" is back on the table. I've never seen the facilities other than the stadium itself, but I wonder if we move the visitors to the south endzone, and also the turf management equipment, would we free up enough space in the Jake for everything the FB program would need?

But what about the walkway that goes around to the west side entrance? I know that one isn't used nearly as much, but that would cut that out completely wouldn't it?

Coach Rhoads denied all of this when asked directly about projects. He was on KXNO this morning.... Said that it is in the future goals of the the Athletic Department but denied the south endzone being built anytime soon.
