Rhoads/FB Projects

I will say, it is a ****** time for this to be leaking out, considering the other news about the universities right now. Some idiots will be spouting off about ISU building stadium improvements while raising tuition.

Been over this already... bowling in isnt about 'adding seats' its about converting grass seats into physical seats.

If this is true, i'm thankful for whoever 'wrote the check'.

Most people who sit on the hills are clone club members and their parents, so will all the clone club members get to sit in the south endzone seats or will they just overpack the other 2 overpacked hill sides? I think it will add a a lot more seats than you think it will. It will be at least 2-3 times the size of the current bleachers. Come game day when half of the new bowling part isn't filled it will make recruits not want to come because it makes it look like we have a bad fan base, also most of upper deck in the current stadium will not be filled. If we were close to selling out I would say yes lets do it as soon as possible, but because we are not at that point we should not do it.

Awesome news!!! I hope to make it back for a game this fall! And in the future when the south endzone project is complete!!

How did this not get posted here or on CR within like 5 minutes of CPR saying it? If true possibly the biggest news to come out of the department in quite some time.

Chris, you heard anything on this?

I had to ask the same thing in the original post on CR when I dangle the bait out at first and was hoping I was not suppose to keep it a secret?
I think Larson Industries might be footing the bill!!

SOUTH ENDZONE TO GET BOWLED IN

I just was listening to the Murph and Andy Show in my car and they were talking about the South Endzone getting bowled in at Jack Trice.

They said it was official. I guess Paul Rhoads announced it at a Cyclone Gridiron Club event.

Has this been announced already that it is officially happening or is this breaking news?

I knew there was talk about it, but I didn't think it was official or anything like that.

I didn't hear a time table because I had to get out of the car before they said anything about it.

Thoughts?

I would love to see it ASAP!

No idea about the people who currently sit on the hillsides, but I'd imagine they would move into the south bowl.

And I don't understand the argument for waiting until you sell out every game to upgrade your stadium. Plenty of larger programs (Miami, Florida State, UCLA) have large stadiums that they don't sell out every Saturday. You should build for your largest crowds so you're not turning away money at the gate.

And as it currently is, JTS is a completely adequate stadium. The thing with BCS football is, no one is satisfied with adequate anymore. This is an arms race, and ISU is lagging FAR behind. Facilities affect recruiting and outside perception of the program, which affects wins and the money that comes with it. If you don't want ISU to get left in the dust, they need to upgrade Jack Trice now.

The figures have been done over and over and over. Simply bowling in the south end zone WILL NOT increase capacity. A second deck would though. Next, the south end zone will now be where the students sit opening up more room for donors on the east side.

It is not just an ISU problem regarding sell outs. If you watch college football on any given Thursday-Saturday you see many, many stadiums with the corners not completely full. Just this past year I have been to games at the Univ. of Arkansas, Univ. of Georgia, and to the Sugar Bowl and none were sell outs. All three, even the Sugar Bowl had open corners.

The south end zone is a NECESSITY if ISU wants to compete. It is not a luxury.

false. A ton of people buy these as the cheapest option.

Also need to keep in mind, we reduced our actual seat capacity when we put in the suites. This regains those.

Re: SOUTH ENDZONE TO GET BOWLED IN

Like I said before I see no reason to add more seats to JTS, we can't even fill up what we have now and the new endzone would add a lot more seats that we would NOT be able to fill up. The reason why the hills are packed is because it is a bunch of kids and their parents. Parents are not going to buy somewhat expensive season tickets for their kids who will play during the whole game and no't even what to go to every game, that is why we have the clone club because it is accepted for multiple sports, and it is cheap. Eliminating the hills is not going to pack the stadium seating very much because most people who sit on the hills are clone club members and their parents, so will all the clone club members get to sit in the south endzone seats or will they just overpack the other 2 overpacked hill sides?
