If he doesn't cut it at qb, I could see him being a stud wr or db.

Very good tape on him against great competition too. He seems to be of a different mold than the previous qbs Campbell has taken. Is he the type or is more of the pro style like noland or Moore that will be recruited in the future? Or we grabbed him because he is a stud? If that makes any sense.

He's starting QB for one of the best HS teams in the country...He played arguably the best schedule in the country out of any HS QB. He put up 3000 yds passing at a 70% comp rate...Oh and he ran for 1200 yds and whoever many TD's. Go read what the head of scouting at 247 wrote about him as a QB then come back and tell me he'd make a helluva slot receive and his passing isnt polished..

Oh and while you are watching his highlights and reading that article keep in mind he's playing against some of the best HS teams in America.
In all fairness he would also make a great slot WR as well as QB so he isn't wrong there...although we did just sign a WR who ran 10.38 100m to make it to Texas state meet so he would have some competition there too.

I wondered if Campbell feels comfortable with the pro style guys he has that he wanted to take more of a chance on a play maker like Mitchell.

Finally took the time to watch his highlight video. There is a lot to like in there.

- good touch on the long ball and fades
- throws well running right or left
- elite speed
- stood in there and took a hit while delivering a throw
- good timing/anticipation on the out patterns

Plus his high school team seems to run a variety of offensive sets, is one of the best HS teams in the nation, and he's their offensive leader.

Austin Flynn. ISU has a fine tradition of taking pretty highly ranked dual threat guys and eventually moving them. That being said Mitchell may be the best throwing prospect we have had in a while. Like Jared said, add 3 inches and we aren't even in the same time zone on his recruitment.

Looks like a nice QB to me but the athleticism is key.

Even if he's playing against great HS competition the general speed of the college game is a big step so who knows what skills transfer that well.

So far it seems CMC's approach is build the lines and put the most athletic players on the field. Sounds good to me.
