Miroslav Jaksic committed to Grand Canyon today..

The Grand Canyon Antelopes hired a new men's basketball coach back in March. It is a name that may ring a bell for some: "Thunder Dan" Majerle.

I live in Phoenix. GCU is growing rapidly. It is also a conservative Christian university. It's possible that the Christian angle is also a factor along with the new coach.

There is so much talent on the list of guys you have here and a lot of the guys have high interest in ISU. I wish we had more than just two scholarships open. I'd love to have like five of these guys but that just won't happen unfortunately.
Can of worms. You let someone go since these are not multi year schollies...

Absolutely has to be. He reclassified from 2013 to 2014, about a month ago, which is usually done to develop more and garner better opportunities and now he commits to GCU. It makes very little sense.

I think one can assume that he wasn't as good a prospect as many here thought and his supposed offer list might have been trumped up by his coaches.

Excellent. Interesting we haven't offered Macura yet. I wonder who we are still hoping to land with that scholarship.

Vaughn, Terrell, and Cunningham seem to be the top targets at wing. Might be forgetting someone.Hopefully Macura gets an offer soon though.

Assuming Vaugh is too good to be true, I sure would like to round this class out with Cunningham at the wing, Macura at the 2, and Jaylen Johnson as a post to go along with Custer.

That would be a very good class. Johnson's stock is rising, as is his height as hes reportedly up to 6'9" now. Cunningham is another guy whose stock is soaring and his versatility is very attractive.

How many schollies will we have to rewicker beyond the two available then? Interesting thought to upgrade.

We have Thomas as a shooter for 2013 and Grandstaff as a high priority in 2015. I'm not trying to pigeon hole him but it may be a numbers/need game. We have other needs/wants that are up the list.

Somewhat off topic, but I like how the 2014-15 scholarship chart more or less gets stronger as go from pink to yellow. To Green??

Just one. There are 3 open scholarships for 2014 (Ejim, Kane, Bubu). I figure we sign 4 players to account for attrition.

I agree with this. I'd rather get another post over Macura personally. I don't think he has the depth to his game that Grandstaff and to a lesser extent Thomas has.

So, how does a staff decide who and when? I mean, if Vaughn is still possible, do you accept a commitment (hypotheically right now) from someone like Macura? If Abu is still possible, do you accept a commitment (also hypothetical example) from someone like Johnson or Cunningham? I wouldn't begin to know how to best play out these recruiting games.
