Recruit Lists v2.0

Your post made me wonder what our ongoing relationship with Vaughn will be like. We know that the recruiting doesn't stop when a verbal is given (e.g. Lazard), but what will it look like for us to keep recruiting Vaughn. Or do we just totally let him go? It seems like we have invested too much to let him go until he signs.

Good question. I think we felt "betrayed" enough that it's over for good. Who knows though.

April 16 is signing day, long after the tournament is over. If we go deep into the tournament and get lots of pub for Fred's "NBA style coaching," it is remotely conceivable Vaughn could change his mind and sign with us. I highly doubt that happens though.

Honestly think there's a better chance he switches to UK, KU, or UNC at that point.

For a guess on who may be available for transfers just see which teams have coaches on the hot seat.

For the sake of conversation:

Vanderbilt, Purdue, Seton Hall, Boston College, DePaul, South Florida, Auburn, Wake Forest, Washington State, Oregon State.
10 College Basketball Head Coaches Who Should Be On the Hot Seat

Others named above along with Rice, Georgia, Fordham.

There is an ESPN Insider article that also names more. Notably includes Stanford and Oklahoma State.

It would be awesome if Seton Hall's coach Kevin Willard on that list got canned and we could get another crack at SG Isaiah Whitehead, who is a McD's All-American. I know Matt A. recruited him hard for awhile, but don't know how serious was with us. I suspect that we made a harder push for Vaughn. He would be just what we need next year.

Yeah, them landing whitehead was pretty shocking.

The coaches stopped following him on twitter and vice versa so I assume contact has been cut off for the most part. Might open back up if something happens but I am sure Rice isn't going anywhere.

Not sure him going to UNLV has much to do with Rice anyway. Cliff Findlay (UNLV booster) has provided kaffey with a job for two years while RV is in LV. That relationship, whatever it is, appears to be very important to RV. The most interesting thing for me about this whole saga, is what happens to Kaffey after next season if RV is good enough to go to the NBA.

Unless grades are a factor or coaching change, I look at high-level, Spring recruits with suspicion. ISU could have been a backup plan I suppose.

Anyway, back to 2nd chance guys, jucos and solid 50 to 125 recruits. Makes for a pretty good program.

If you don't think Iowa State or anyone else pays for players, you are mistaken. And it's been going on for years. Maybe not directly, but it has happened. I know a very prominent former player in Ames who openly tells of all the money available to them at any given moment. Here is an old article but very true.

"There's one particular program right now - an elite program that most fans wouldn't ever guess - that everyone in basketball knows is straight-up paying guys. Will they get caught? I don't know, but the more this stuff gets exposed, the more we can shatter these ridiculous media-fueled notions about who's dirty and who isn't."

I think Fred gambled that Rashad was a type 1 recruit when the reality is that he was a type 3 all along. I'd be willing to bet this is why we stopped recruiting a certain recruit from the Chicago area, but that is just speculation on my part.

@TravisHines21: Jerry Myles ('16, IL) expected to be in Hilton Coliseum today on an unofficial visit, per a source.
