Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Cody owns you and the big12, his own words, say you love the billionaire Reek, say it.
LOL, predictably only the B10 lemmings and Purple Hawk are all throwing their usual hissy fits over Campbell and some progress updates in DC.

Speedy does too but he gets a mental health waiver.

Yeah but the rest of you are rational, he’s prepping his lube station to glaze a TT billionaire who is speaking this way about the big12, just gross
You’re a Michigan St fan hanging out on an Iowa State message board. Get some friends, and get a life.

Again, dude. No one is arguing that reform is needed. Not a single person.

It's just that you've attached yourself to this one plan from a guy that is obviously only out for himself and TT that has no shot to get through Congress when there are other meaningful reforms that have, at least somewhat, a chance to get regulatory approval.

Pooling and wholesale change is never going to happen because the two most powerful entities aren't going to come to the table.

5 year eligibility is a great first step, now the leaders just need to get united on the next front which has to be 1x transfer. If we're able to get those two things passed, a lot of the other issues are going to take care of themselves and we won't have the postseason crises we have every year.

As always, the only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time.

It all has to be in one package to get something passed. And progress is being made due to Campbell’s efforts on getting bipartisan support, especially from Dem Senator Cantwell.

Eligibility and transfer reform cannot be enforced without an anti trust exemption and that exemption won’t be approved unless the SBA is amended and House is codified as well.

You're putting a lot of confidence in 2 parties who couldn't pass legislation that the sun rises in the east. Nothing has changed since last December, just legislators spinning their wheels. Or trying to get campaign money out of Cody Campbell.

ICYMI, this article lays out why legacy B10 Presidents/ADs should be all in on media rights pooling, 7x10 realignment and removing primary control of the conference from Fox to a centralized media control entity that would at least double media revenues for all of FBS

To have a B10 media rights arrangement completely controlled by Fox where Fox can nix a deal where NBC could have sublicensed the B10 CCG to Netflix or Amazon for nearly double the amount that Fox will pay is absurd. And it illustrates the complete screw job that NBC and CBS got on their sublicense deals with Fox for B10 rights, the significant devaluation of CCGs with the existing CFP process and why Fox/ESPN don't want Amazon and Netflix in the CFB media space for the sole benefit of Fox/ESPN:

This is one of your more out of touch posts. First NBC wanted a deal for $70mil they didn’t have one, they got a deal for $45-55mil which isn’t that close to double as you claimed. Also the big ten wouldn’t have seen any of that money as it’s NBC sub licensing what it already bought.

So you’re suggesting that the big ten blow up everything and kick members out to gain zero dollars and have a conference championship game on streaming getting fewer viewers and more hoops for fans.

I really hope you aren’t in business with these kind of takes

Did you even read the article I linked? Here is an excerpt:

"At the end of 2025, when NBC was pitching the Big Ten title game to streamers, Fox took issue with the plan. And because the network would need to bless any sublicense from NBC, NBC’s plan was essentially dead on arrival."

Fox nixed any NBC deal that would have netted NBC $35M more from Netflix or Amazon than what they are getting from Fox on the deal for what is becoming an increasingly meaningless B10 CCG. Fox simply didn't want Netflix or Amazon involved now or in the future if they have their way.

And the fact that the B10 wouldn't have seen any of the incremental sublicensing money is a clear indicator of the existing absurdity of both the B10/Fox deal and the CFP/ESPN deal which also permits sublicensing to Turner. Do you think the NFL or NBA would permit this kind sublicensing and not see any incremental sublicensing money? Of course not. Fox controls the B10 with Petitti as their puppet.

And of course, you are pouting again and refusing to acknowledge the doubling of revenues with media rights pooling and the advantages that the legacy B10 members (including Michigan State) would have by not having to share the portion of the pooled revenues (based on TV ratings) with dregs like Rutgers and Maryland.

Sweet. Good move by Fox. I wouldn't want the B1G CCG on Netflix or Amazon.

Yeah why would Fox or the big ten care about NBC making more money reselling the rights. I don’t want more games on subscription services and don’t know anyone that does

Also your NFL peeps that you like to use are under investigation for the very things you are trying to promote here

Finally, no source has proven that big ten rights would double, even your own articles that you posted show a very minor increase for big ten teams at the end of the media deal and guess what, big ten and SEC rights will double anyways next media deal which is why it’s such hard sell.

Also I don’t have a desire to go down to an 10 team league and kick teams out. You act like making 7 ten team conferences would fix things and that a whole massive new host of issues wouldn’t spring up.

I’m all for pushing in legislation that would alter the transfer portal or even NIL (don’t think that’s really possible) but going for a crazy reconfiguring of every conference is gonna be a non starter for most, especially for the P2 that have almost nothing to gain by it

Weird that the Big Ten would have an interest in their property not ending up where there would be more barriers to fans.

Northwestern is going to be rivals with BYU whether they like it or not, damnit!

As with conference leaders not happy with ESPN sublicensing CFP rights to TNT, B10 Presidents/ADs should be pissed that NBC even has to right to sublicense games to make money for themselves when NBC was sublicensing those same games from Fox. The whole process is leaving millions on the table for B10 schools as does the CFP process for all of FBS.

And when oversized conferences like the B10 and SEC can't even conduct a scheduling process to fairly determine a FB conference champion and then are proposing to give up even trying by eliminating CCGs, that is truly a sad state affairs for the sport especially when oversized conferences only serve to solely benefit ESPN and Fox.

Which conference has proposed eliminating their CCG?

Can’t speak for the SEC but Big Ten has never had a problem determining a conference champion since the game was created.

Also kinda funny that in one post you’re mad that NBC got denied a sublicense deal (forgetting that the conference gains zero money from it) only to turn around and be mad that they even had the ability to sub license the game. Which by the way was a single championship game over the entire media deal. Now it’s back with Fox and not on streaming which everyone is happy with.

Honestly I gotta admit half the time I enjoy engaging with you for the incredible mental gymnastics you go through on this topic, ya never know where you are gonna end up except for saying puppets repeatedly.
