Anyone who says "we are fine without him" is right and wrong at the same time. Sure we ended up getting BDJ and that is working out quite nicely so far but everyone would (then and now) take Vaughn in a heartbeat. Vaughn coming here could have set us up to get the attention of more highly ranked recruits. If Vaughn would have came here he would be doing probably just as good as BDJ and would probably be drafted in the first round guaranteed. That would have paid huge dividends in the future recruiting efforts.

It's about the system and UNLV is not the system one-and-done players should choose.

Don't really have any ill will towards the kid, but anyone could have seen that playing on a ***** MWC team was going to minimize his exposure. He's going to get passed up by kids getting more exposure to NBA scouts.

Ugh so disgusting to see so many Freshman and Sophomores rated so high. Most of them are gonna get drafted and be D league regulars and burnouts. I agree with Bobby Knight, the NBA is the most selfish organization out there and totally ruin the college game, needs something like baseball draft.

Wouldn't Vaughn have been better off playing in China similar to Emmanuel Mudiay? He would be playing professionally, having more time to improve his game, and make some money (more than he is probably making at UNLV). The coaching couldn't have been any worse, and he can still be in the draft next year.

He would be playing professionally, having more time to improve his game, and make some money (more than he is probably making at UNLV). Doubt it was really an option. Remember China was Mudiay's fall back plan due to NCAA eligibility concerns and not getting to go to SMU. Granted a million dollar fall back plan but still.

If people thought BDJ was a "volume scorer" (AKA scores a lot but takes a lot of shots) at UNLV then what is Vaughn considered? That's more than volume. I wouldn't want to play on his team. Rice's system is pathetic.

Before people get all up in arms, I'm not wishing this on him.

That being said, probably the best thing that could happen to him at this point would be for him to have a statistically good game and then have a season ending but not career threatening injury. All of the scouts would remember the last game and think he was starting to take over and give him the benefit of the doubt come draft time.

I just don't see that program turning this season around. It is only going to get worse in Thomas and Mack.

Again, I am not wishing injury on him.

I imagine having a very good player on a bad team will just turn into a lot of "do you" offense. His stats will improve, but I'm not sure his standing with the scouts will.

Mudiay is basically a test subject for that strategy and he was pretty much forced to do something other than college. Vaughn may want to go pro after 1 year but he may get feedback saying he shouldn't. Or he may like college.
