So last night was baby care, well the start at least. We had to practice with some baby dolls and I looked at DH holding mine - looking at the head - and was like oh dear God tell me this isn't newborn size. The lady starts talking and is like oh yeah, btw, these aren't newborn, it's like 2 months old size and the pregnant half of the class was audibly relieved. DH thought this was funny. He's an ass.

So then she's like unswaddle your baby to practice changing the diaper. We start to do so and I'm very confused to notice that our baby is not wearing a diaper, but rather a paper towel. WTF??I look around and we're the only ones with such. So DH goes and gets a different baby. I was very surprised when we took off the diaper to notice that these were very anatomically correct babies. DH is like what did you expect? IDK, DH, all the baby dolls I had growing up were very neutral down there! I just wasn't expecting baby peen!

A dad that always makes great faces at his wife asked for how long babies have 6-8 diapers a day. The nurse lady is like "years". He goes "oh that's great" hahahaha. Also, I feel like 6-8 is low end for a baby? Maybe that was 6-8 poopy diapers?

Nurse lady asked what questions people had, turns out most of the dads were really concerned about dropping the baby/the wobbly neck big head deal.

Then we had group discussions at the end with questions to think about. That got deep! Our questions had to do with how did the way our parents raised us affect how we will parent and how will we handle post-baby texts/visits/etc. immediately after birth. I'm like oooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh boy, this is relevant to our lives right now!

Also, I was good at swaddling. DH screwed it up. He's like I missed a step somewhere. I look over and I'm like yeah you did. So I had to walk him back through it. I may have gloated a bit.

Next week we're supposed to bring the car seat. We don't even have it yet and we won't by next week either. Ooops.
6-8 seems like a low-end estimate to me for a newborn. That does seem about right for when they start eating at more regular intervals, though. The wobbly neck thing was probably what I was most nervous about.

Also, DH isn't an ass. He was right. It was funny.

If you want to go to White House, make sure you contact Congress person.
I think we're already too late to get a white house tour. We may still be able to get the extended, private capitol tour but I'm not sure it's worth our time to see the back offices where the lobbyists hand money under the table to our honorable elected officials.

Every time I've been there, the trainers we've had complain about the notorious DC rush hour traffic. To me, it never seemed all that bad but I wasn't driving anywhere. I suppose they were using that as an excuse to leave so that they wouldn't be forced to go to happy hour with us.

I'm considering that. My kids are old enough that they should be OK walking most places but I also know that the girls will, more than likely, be wearing flip flops.

We haven’t been there for about 10 years, but yeah nothing has ever seemed bad but the Beltway and even then we could take HOV lanes. So many people take the subway we never had much trouble parking.

Car is nice to go to Mt. Vernon. Various trips we also took kids to Baltimore and Charlottesville down Skyline Drive. One time we drove out of our way to go to Gettysburg, thought we would just spend a few hours, and kids absolutely loved it so we didn’t get to hotel in Ohio until about 3:00 am. Also surprised they really loved Fort McHenry.

Some diapers are hard to tell if they are wet or not. I started buying the indicator lined ones. 6-8 may be conservative safety amount. I'v seen too many articles where people just left baby in diaper for way to long. :(

I was a congressional intern, let the jokes fly.

My boss gave me this great four hour tour of the Capitol. I felt really special until I learned I would be giving people the backroom Tour. The crypt is fun though.

We always worked Cedar Point into the drive.

Did you get one of those $2,000 designer car seats?

We lived in Arlington and did that at first. Husband had free parking at work, was easier and faster to drive unless like two inches of snow freaked everyone out. Plus we worked two blocks away from each other. Close enough in we didn’t need to take the Beltway. Farther out would definitely take train.

This is my girls out in Washington. Schools close, cars sliding all over, panic. I have to laugh.

Swaddling is great, but it's harder when there's a squirmy little baby in there.

For the first several months you are going to have a lot of little dirty diapers. Some blowouts, but at the beginning most of them are little.

Now Mini-Hopp, he's all or nothing right now. Sometimes he will wizz so much his diaper sags past his knees. Other times he'll blow a deuce out the back and leg holes with no warning other than him going to hide in the corner. He's taken to sticking his hand in there to check out his new creation. That's fun. We get to take him to the bath tub and spray him down then.

Hopefully he'll potty train pretty easily.

As a congressional intern, were you one of the people that would play softball/ultimate frisbie on the mall?

We probably won't be stopping at Cedar Pointe. Only one of my kids likes the big coasters. I did go on the big one at Universal with her this year. The fact that it was the Rock n Roll coaster and you could pick the music you heard in your seat was cool (Sabotage was the very appropriate choice). It was a blast but I felt like my head was going to explode. I'm too old for that sh*t.

When Shelby was little, she'd reach in and grab a handful and smear it on the wall. Ugh.

You'd walk in her room (the smell was the tipoff) and she'd be standing in her crib with a mittful of poop, smiling. We should have taken pictures........could have used them against her later. ;)

@jcyclonee if you decide to subway and hoof it, you might check out the various bike share things they have on the mall if you want to go somewhere a bit further like Jefferson Memorial.

That was our main job. That and taking the MC’s invites to all the freebie food to stay on a dollar a day food budget lol.

Speaking of Clonee hoofing it, how the ACL thingie @jcyclonee?
It's fine. Thanks for asking. I need to get surgery at some point but need to find a time when we aren't quite so active. Maybe October or November. I can walk fine right now and have started doing really short jogs. This is all fine but if I do anything where I need to change direction quickly it's probably not a good idea.
