Mediacom was out in Ames and surrounding areas last night. It went out about 5:45 due to a cut line in a construction site in Ankeny from what I was told. At 5:50 I got an 800# call, here it was Mediacom asking me if I wanted to up my internet speed. I started laughing and the guy asked what was so funny. I told him about the cable being out. They marketing guy told me he was sitting in a cubicle in West Des Moines and that it would be a couple of hours and we would have it back by then if not sooner. Yeah sure thing on that!! Meanwhile 6 hours later we finally got it back.

This weekend the vixen negotiated with Mediacom, we were going to cancel our land line and keep our internet connection. So they basically cut our monthly rate in half for keeping the phone, plus told us they would upgrade our speed, too.

The next day we couldn't get online.

I suppose pink might work. I try to wear a wine colored shirt on Wednesday because years ago a guy I worked with declared Wednesdays as Whiney Wednesday. As long as you wear a wine colored shirt you can whine about stuff without repercussion.

I-90 is a death trap right now. I mean it always is, but around here especially. For those that don't know, it is being widened to 3 lanes on each side, and in some spots 4, where it already isn't, from Madison down to the border. Right now, all the traffic is one on side, double lane, but barely any shoulder. Speed limit of course is still 70. There are multiple accidents a day, causing both sides to come to a stop. I will not drive on it. Don't ever need to, but still. Speed limit need to be 50mph at most. Make speeding the same as speeding in a work zone. The road will be paid for in no time.

When I go back home (Oconomowoc), I take the beltline around Madison, get on I-90, and then hop on I-94 toward Milwaukee. That beltline and stretch of I-90 are always jammed with traffic....but then, routing traffic around Mad town is a nightmare anyway, because of the lakes. I have taken US 18 when I have time, down through Jefferson and Sullivan.

Of course, if you want some real daredevil experiences, go to Chicago. Construction or not, those people are ******* nuts.

In a few weeks, we're going to Chicago to visit family and see a couple of colleges. In July, we're going out East to visit NYC and DC. I'm obviously a glutton for traffic punishment.

At least we're not going to LA.

Try Rhode Island. If they believe their car can do it, they try to achieve it.

That is not a word! A good friend just started working for a company out of Wisconsin and on his first trip up to their HQ they talked about a client in Maquoketa, Iowa. They couldn't figure out how to pronounce it to save their life but they can pronounce 80 different towns named after Native American stuff.

Granted for the most part we are not driving around MadTown during rush hour to and from Osh but the issues were always caused by construction on the SW side. Chicago isn't bad once you get the hang of it and remember not to follow speed limits.

You are a glutton for punishment. If the traffic doesn't get you the humidity will

Super fun to unpack the baby's dresser and find a nice crack in the top piece, of course. Oh and they don't ship a replacement because that piece (the largest, of course!!) is too big to ship. Not sure then how you can order it online??? So we get to find time to make another trip east at some point. I'm just super annoyed because it's not like it was damaged in packaging. You can see they tried to paint over it a couple times. Come on, it's a white dresser with an 8 inch crack down the center of the top. It's obvious.

Couple good things in the birth class last night.

We ordered a white dresser for our 1st baby and we got a desk when it was delivered. Didn’t get the dresser until after baby was born finally. Still being used 15yrs later.

When I was about 8mo pregnant we had a big entertainment center delivered from Redekers. It was supposed to go in our basement, but the delivery people couldn’t figure out how to get the tall side pieces down our stairwell. Hubby and I figured out how to maneuver it around the corner and get it downstairs. Then we notice a crack in a shelf. Redekers replaced it and tried to leave the replacement upstairs saying they didn’t want to be liable for any damage getting it downstairs. We said listen, if we can get this large piece of furniture moved while one person is 8mo large, you strapping young men can figure it out.

lol, a desk instead of a dresser?! This crack is just annoying enough that I want to replace it. It'll mostly likely be covered by the changing pad thingy but I'm still like dangit, we paid for this and I know it's going to get beat up but can it at least start off looking nice?! And that's the worst, finding a problem after you went through all the work to get it in place.

LOL.....people from Iowa that I have taken to Wisconsin get the biggest kick out of these names, like Waukesha, Pewaukee, Manitowoc, Manitowish Waters, Waupun, Kaukauna, etc, etc, etc. But since the Ojibwa used to own most of what is now Wisconsin, I guess it's only fair we name a bunch of places after them.

Oconomowoc is Ojibwa for "where waters meet", which makes sense because there are two lakes in town - Lac La Belle and Fowler Lake. Here's the dam where Fowler dumps into La Belle:

Oconomowoc Lake is not in city limits, but close. That's where all the old money is.

I'd love to live there, but there's no way in hell I could afford it.
