Random Thoughts XI (Eleven Pipers Piping)

Went to the in-laws this past weekend. They live in a house that's a little over 100 years old, and used to be a hospital. Supposedly, it's haunted by a little girl and an old woman, but I've been visiting there for 28-29 years and never had anything happen. Well, that's all changed.

So, the upstairs has basically not been used except for guests for some time now -- the in-laws don't get around too good anymore, so they use the main floor, and rarely go upstairs.

I took my wife's bag and my own up the stairs and went to turn the hallway light on, and I'm guessing it was her hair dryer banged loudly into one of the doors. Took a couple steps toward our bedroom, and heard this weird noise -- like a fan or something running -- that I'd not heard before, and I'm thinking to myself, "Is that some kind of heater or something..." Then just as I realized what it was, the noise quit. It was the sewing machine running. Bags dropped in the bedroom and scooted downstairs.

Later that night, I got up the nerve to go up and brush my teeth. As I was doing so, the bathtub faucet turned on and immediately shut off again. I'm getting goose bumps again, just thinking about it.

Some of the stories I've heard from others:

My grand nephew got a bath and my SIL was getting him dressed (he was 3). "Nana, close the door, I don't like that old lady looking at me."

My daughters and their cousins were playing video games in in-laws old bedroom. Attic door swings open and slams shut.

Clothes basket sitting about 5 feet from the stairs suddenly slides down the stairs.

Just kidding.

I'd have run away screaming like a little girl, leaving a trail of tears and pride behind me.

CW loves ghosts, you need to take him with.

Deadline to apply for graduation is Friday.
Asked my advisor point-blank via e-mail (since I'm never on campus during the day) if I can go ahead and fire that app off.

The answer came tonight: "I'll let you know on Friday."
Not enough stars.

By advisor, do you mean your prof or do they also assign you to those departmental people they have for undergrads? Cause that’s bad.

My forever student has an article accepted for publication as the principal author finally this week so I feel like we are inching closer. Has a few tweaks to make, but not nearly as many as there have been on some of the papers he has worked on with others.

Let me begin my saying that I am not a FB person - not judging anyone, I'm just not the type to be intimate with my cell phone all day long. (Although I must confess I have a pretty big RTT Jones most days.) The vixen is on FB constantly......and I don't begrudge her that, because it allows me to watch MBB and other things.

It strikes me as funny that so many folks are willing to be on FB often, giving out details of their lives and posting pictures and what-not, basically laying their whole life out there for all to see - and then become indignant when something not-so-good happens. (As in, "you're weird" or worse.)

I realize I'm becoming an old-timer, but this whole social media thing sure seems like a recipe for disaster. Witness our so-called president, for a prime example.

/end rant

Went to see "The Greatest Showman" last night. Highly recommend it. Want to see "The Post" next.

We were planning on seeing it last weekend but life got in the way. We'll probably take it in this weekend. It seems like a movie that would be better in a theater.

I love telling a mass amount of people that I'm on vacation and leaving my house unguarded for a week. Sometimes I'll just leave the door unlocked and my valuables in a pile to make it even easier.

I am too much a private person for Facebook. I do like that my husband has an account that he hardly uses just so we can see things like family pictures.

Also saw supposed news stories on there that I knew were trash during last election. Fairly reprehensible.

Older people have made FB passé for anyone under the age of about 25.
