I think at least with the A/C there is some carry over from older groups about the cost/we used to do without it. This had an affect on my parents because my dad is super cheap and my mom grew up on a farm that didn't have indoor plumbing until she was around middle school age and probably never had A/C growing up.
I always gave them crap though because they fought my grandpa (especially after my grandma died) to turn the A/C on. He would just sit in the basement without a shirt on and sometimes without pants just to avoid the A/C.

I think she's just saying that you no longer need to enter through the window. The front door is just fine. That hurts.
This is pretty much where I am at except the air is still on and set at the customary 80. Frankly I like to have my house and work set at a temperature that is relative to the outside temperature. I think it is crazy when I am running around in 90 degree temps and then freeze when I go inside because they have it set at 65. By the same token I don't want to be all warm at 73 in short sleeves and then have a shock to the system when it is really only 60 degrees outside. No macho here, just a little common sense. My AC is still on set to 76. My house has not dropped below 70 yet. Yeah southern exposure!!
I won't turn my heat on until it starts staying near 60 on a regular basis. I will turn the heat on one time soon just to verify it kicks on. Other than that I keep the house at 66 in the winter anyway. There's no reason to turn it on now.
I'm still befuddled by the fact that there are homecoming courts for any class other than Seniors.I was just told that at the school that my kids go to, have to walk out with their kids at halftime for homecoming. If the kid plays they don't walk out, just the parents. I've never seen this before. Why the **** do they have the parents walk out? Nobody picked us. Many of the traditions at this school reek of adults wanting to relive their glory days. I went to two HSs and neither had the parents walk out. Guess I need to brush up on my Thai since we walk out with the FES.
Sorry - I missed that part! No, not even the parents of the court members walked their kids out, before the game or during halftime. That IS different. The senior or parents nights yes. My schools did parents night and this one does senior night and parents went out. I just have never seen the parents walk out with the homecoming court.
I usually put a sweatshirt and sweat pants on before turning the heat on
I'm not sure how that worked at my kids' school - they were never involved in the court. In my 3-year high school (back in ancient times), sophs & juniors each nominated a girl, seniors nominated 3 girls. The girls chose their escorts (we didn't have a "king") and the football team voted for the queen from the three seniors.I'm still befuddled by the fact that there are homecoming courts for any class other than Seniors.
Are the tiaras and crowns different for each class?
If you're elected to the court as an underclassman, are you eliminated from future consideration?
Is there a game of king of the mountain played between then incumbents and the new challengers each year? If so, that would be awesome.
I usually start with the AC at 74 and bump it to 76 and then 78 as it gets hotter. I'm not going higher than 78 though. This is pretty much where I am at except the air is still on and set at the customary 80. 69 or 70 in the summer, 60 in the winter. We have an electric blanket for the bedroom, , and light a fire in the fireplace in the living room (which is equipped with a heatilater). If we have family visiting, we bring the heat up a little bit and also use our woodburning stove in the lower level if needed, but when your heat is electric, you go with the cheaper options. One thing that is DEFINITELY cheap (and abundantly available for us) is wood for the fireplace. In the summer, we set the A/C to 72 during the night and 71 during the day. I'd like to have it a bit higher but we purchased a high-efficiency AC that was too large and it doesn't run long enough to get the humidity out of the house at higher temps.
In the winter, I like to set the heater at 69 during the day because I'm 12-years-old on the inside like WDSM.
My HS does but that is done before the game and the necessary players just quickly step out of warm ups. Or at least they used to. I can give the current update Friday night.
