I think some of the midwest "don't turn up the heat" happened when home heating oil prices spiked. Heating big old uninsulated farmhouses and town homes on 15 cents a gallon #2 fuel wasn't a big budget item. When prices rocketed it became a BIG deal. Hell, even my dad converted to natural gas and he SOLD heating oil.
I will eventually turn up the heat because my boys will get cold in their room.
I'm still sweating in our room. We have both of us, and three dogs heating that room up. It's hot! I think we have pretty good insulation in there as well.

I think she's just saying that you no longer need to enter through the window. The front door is just fine.
This is pretty much where I am at except the air is still on and set at the customary 80. Frankly I like to have my house and work set at a temperature that is relative to the outside temperature. I think it is crazy when I am running around in 90 degree temps and then freeze when I go inside because they have it set at 65. By the same token I don't want to be all warm at 73 in short sleeves and then have a shock to the system when it is really only 60 degrees outside. No macho here, just a little common sense.
I'm still befuddled by the fact that there are homecoming courts for any class other than Seniors.
Are the tiaras and crowns different for each class?
If you're elected to the court as an underclassman, are you eliminated from future consideration?
Is there a game of king of the mountain played between then incumbents and the new challengers each year? If so, that would be awesome.
Sorry - I missed that part! No, not even the parents of the court members walked their kids out, before the game or during halftime. That IS different.
In the summer, we set the A/C to 72 during the night and 71 during the day. I'd like to have it a bit higher but we purchased a high-efficiency AC that was too large and it doesn't run long enough to get the humidity out of the house at higher temps.
In the winter, I like to set the heater at 69 during the day because I'm 12-years-old on the inside like WDSM.

it was back to leggings and a sweatshirt for me Monday.
cloudy, rainy days barely getting into the 60s meant the house stopped warming up during the day and it's been down in the 40s at night. Think it's supposed to be sunny tomorrow though.
All this talk of Heat and A/C is making me feel like this:

I'm not sure how that worked at my kids' school - they were never involved in the court. In my 3-year high school (back in ancient times), sophs & juniors each nominated a girl, seniors nominated 3 girls. The girls chose their escorts (we didn't have a "king") and the football team voted for the queen from the three seniors.
I usually start with the AC at 74 and bump it to 76 and then 78 as it gets hotter. I'm not going higher than 78 though.
69 or 70 in the summer, 60 in the winter. We have an electric blanket for the bedroom, , and light a fire in the fireplace in the living room (which is equipped with a heatilater). If we have family visiting, we bring the heat up a little bit and also use our woodburning stove in the lower level if needed, but when your heat is electric, you go with the cheaper options. One thing that is DEFINITELY cheap (and abundantly available for us) is wood for the fireplace.
The more I think about it I believe I am confusing HC with Senior night. HC is done at half time I believe and no parents but the full court (King & Queen along with a male and female attendant from each class). So each class votes for their respective attendants and I don't remember if just the seniors voted for King/Queen or if they narrowed it down and then there was a school wide vote.

Wow, you really have adapted to the midwest considering the average temperature in the Borneo jungles is 86 degrees.
The senior class has candidates, only one. Other HS classes have a male and female attendant, like an ambassador from each class for the court. Could be same ones each year, typically different though.
