Hey, Pants, Anthony Bourdain is in Hawaii tonight on CNN. New episode Sunday is Cologne. Will have to watch that one since I was just there. Kinda liked Cologne. Beat Bourdain goes to cooler spots then I did.
Did you try Kölsch beer while you were there? When we did the river cruise, our German son came down from Recklinghausen to spend the evening with us in Cologne (one of the advantages of the smaller boat & crew; he was able to show us around Cologne, then came back & hung out on the boat with us for a while). We wanted him to take us to a local beer hall, and he kept trying to talk us out of trying the local brew, Kölsch. We were determined to try it - PBLLLLFFFFFF - that was the NASTIEST crap I've ever encountered in a glass. We drank a little bit of it and asked what else was on tap at the other places down the street. Ummmm...Kölsch, Kölsch, and more Kölsch. Sascha says "I tried to warn you..." At that point we went back to the boat and had a few (more normal) beers there.

Everyone said the pork loin was great. Which it was but not quite as smokey as I would like. Oh damn I have to keep practicing.
I was researching different things to do with friends this summer and one ideas was to rent a boat somewhere for a day and booze cruise or tube/ski. Slightly disappointed that no where over here rents more of the "speed boat" or runabout types to tube/ski with. Not to mention the only places I found are one in Coralville and one in Dubuque and the one in CVL is almost $200 more than DBQ and by the looks of it not as nice. The downfall is no one seemed interested in swimming off of it in the Mississippi (not that I blame them) but it isn't like any other lakes or rivers around are much cleaner. This isn't table rock. So we will see how that plays out.
My beloved 172 is officially no longer in the family but we will hopefully have good news from the FAA on my dad's medical this week.
