Random Thoughts VIII: The Ocho

I recognize that, but otoh, having been on the bad end of it, I'm less sympathetic. I was pregnant with my first when the managers (a husband/wife couple) resigned to move to another state. They recommended me to replace them. Instead, the owner hired his buddy, a recently divorced history teacher with no experience whatsoever in restaurants of any sort. I ended up doing my job (day shift supervisor) AND training him to do his job (which basically entailed ME doing it because he wasn't interested, and didn't understand it, and just wanted to get into the pants of the coeds working for us). I stuck it out for a year. About 5 months after son was born I'd had enough. Found a job on campus (ex was still in grad school) and never looked back.

Yes, you can get burned hiring a pregnant woman. You can also get burned hiring a closet alcoholic, a hypochondriac, an addict, etc. Of the four, I'd take the pregnant woman...especially if she NEEDS the job.

That sounds to me more like someone wanting an excuse to hire his buddy than someone actually hesitant about the potential ramifications of hiring/promoting a pregnant woman.

I binge watched Turn on Netflix the last week, 2 seasons. The finished with Benedict Arnold and his second wife getting busy (wasn't married then, she was trying to get him on the British side). It had her as getting crazy with this Major Andre and seducing Benedict for him. It talked how she was the hot number in Philly, just was getting old.

I googled Benedict Arnold to see how old he was, around 37. I figured Peggy was 22 or so. Nope, 16-17. That seemed so wrong, I know times were different, but seemed wrong.

It was. It was also before the days where I could fight it in court. And he flat out told me that didn't want a pregnant woman waddling around the store, but didn't go so far as to terminate me. Two of my day shift co-workers (we were all wives of grad students) ended up getting pregnant shortly after me, so he had THREE of us "waddling around the store". ;)

So somebody posted something on Facebook something like "30 scary memories people have from their childhood." I'm in my office, bored, so I start reading it. Now, the store my office is in isn't open today. Normally I go to an open store, but Thursday's are my days to be alone in the office to get everything I need done for the weekend, done, because usually they throw last minute stuff on us on Fridays, so I'm clear to do that the following day. But today I'm done and bored already. They're not like, scary stories, just short, really creepy occurrences that may have happened, may have been a child's imagination. But I'm sitting here, with the only light in the entire store being on is the one in my office, reading these creepy stories, and the Buddhist church that shares a wall with me starts doing their creepy *** chanting that I can hear through the wall. Freaked the hell out of myself.

Also, re-reading that, I think it reads like a CG post, but I'm just going to post it anyway.

Riding my bike as far as I did on the first actual day of doing it again in a while was dumb. Even with bike shorts. I think I am going to be super sore tomorrow in muscles I had forgotten existed.

I realize it's a few years old, but I wish 95% of horror movies made these days were half as effective as this. No gore, no special effects, no elaborate ridiculous story, just a 3 minute short film made on a budget of probably 200 dollars that's creepy enough to not terrify you, but last with you for a little while.

Not every woman gets morning sickness...you're young & healthy, you might be a lucky one. If not, keep a pack of Soda crackers (low salt) handy at all times. If you feel queasy, nibble one, VERY slowly. The soda will neutralize the acid naturally. :)

my mom had it pretty bad with all four so I have no hope for myself

Several months? How much maternity leave do they give you?

US is literally one of the worst countries in the world for maternity/parental leave so not like it's six months or anything. FMLA allows 12 weeks unpaid for companies hitting certain thresholds, I would get 6 or 8 weeks paid via my company. Dh and I are in a position that we'd probably have me take 8 weeks either way and then use vacation/rest of FMLA to come back part-time for several weeks. That's what both bosses have done and seems to work well as a transition.

got the bulb flowers all moved, last juniper in, plants into two planters for porch, one set of tomato and pepper plants in pots, and dead-headed the roses that have like a gazillion blooms about ready to open. I told DH he can easily get me roses for my birthday next week.

Got a very weedy bed (no flowers in it this year) about 3/4 weeded.

Also got my haircut and it wasn't my usual lady (on maternity leave) and it's a good bit shorter than I anticipated. I did not fully check where my collarbone was before I agreed to that length.

Yeah, I had it with all three pregnancies, but in the afternoons (usually around 2). First kid, I ate tomato soup & ritz crackers pretty much exclusively for a couple of months - it was the only thing that appealed to my appetite. At the end of the first trimester boom...done. All three times.

So it's a bob now?
