Cooler, does he have sick time that he is using or has he burned through it all. If he is using sick time that he has earned, I guess there isn't much you can do about it. If he doesn't have any sick time you could complain to your boss about needing help since you have to do more than your share.
Regardless, when he starts complaining about it, just ask him if he has stopped smoking and drinking. If no, I don't want to hear about it.
So I'm feeling like a bit of a jerk and need a ruling. There's a guy that I work with that is a decent guy and moderately hard worker (about an 80%-er). He's had health issues related to smoking (chain smoker) and drinking (not an alcoholic, but more than casual).
My issue comes where he has missed a lot of work this year due to doctor's appts and health problems. The doctors keep telling him to stop drinking and smoking, but he keeps on keeping on. I get that he doesn't want to give up his vices. It's his life, not mine. But I'm getting tired of covering for his *** for all of his appts and for when he doesn't feel good.
A little bit ago, he came to me and mentioned another doctor's appt for tomorrow because he "wasn't feeling right." I was irritated and replied, "Are they going to tell you anything different this time?"
I have a hard time sympathizing with someone that complains about the same issue over and over again, is diagnosed with a way to alleviate the pain, yet foregoes the advice, incurs the same pain, misses more work and then I end up covering for him and having to hear about how he hurts.

Just had to kick a homeless woman out of my store. She stole my protein bar and tried to steal hand sanitizer off the desk.
I'd probably just let her have the hand sanitizer...

That **** is expensive.
CG - Nickles shared a follow-up story on that bison calf, and in the story it explained why the park chose to euthanize. I understand it better now, but it still is frustrating.
The park’s only alternative would have been to ship the calf out of the park. But according to the park statement, it didn’t have the facilities to quarantine the animal to be monitored for brucellosis, an infection that can be spread from animals to people. The park also doesn’t have the resources to care for a calf that’s too young to forage on its own, according to the statement.
“Nor is it the mission of the National Park Service to rescue animals,†the statement continued. “Our goal is to maintain the ecological processes of Yellowstone.â€
think my hostas got some frostbite.
and boy, I had an interesting day at work. Nothing crazy, just a couple different things. Have to see how the rest of the week shakes out. Might be doing some kinda video thing. Oh Lordy. Also going to a meeting for an important project with important people after I filled out an anonymous survey saying I found the whole thing project kinda vague. So now I'm in trouble. Probably not ha,. It's supposed to be about feedback on how it's being communicated and such. Maybe it's that more than just myself said they didn't really understand and that's why they want to get feedback.
I'm not the only plebe in the meeting and the person heading it up has been asking me to provide feedback on it for the last couple months (I did) and I believe wanted to recruit me to his former department a while back so I think he just wanted me to be part of it. Hopefully that's it.
