Random Thoughts VIII: The Ocho

One thing that most people don't think about is that it's the uptake of water killing the engine that allows the car to be swept away or just flooded. Make sure you don't watch an SUV cross and then give it a shot with your Ferrari.

oh yeah. There had been a couple bigger vehicles go through from the other direction but I was waiting on the sedan in front of me because I knew they had about as much clearance as I did.

When I was an intern up here with my wee little 2-door Toyota, I was going to work early one summer morning (2008 - that ring any bells as far as flooding?!) still dark out, and had been storming. I went down my normal side street to get to the main road and 'woof' as my car hit water in the road. New-to-town-me didn't realize how prone to flooding the side streets on the isthmus are. I don't know how deep this was, but enough to float trash cans across the street and feel alllllllllmost like my car was floating. I knew I probably wouldn't die cause it was just drain backup - not a moving water system or something, and the low part of the street wasn't that far across.

But man, I was scared to death that water was going to start coming in on my feet.

You would've been fine. This car is small and handled deep water pretty well.

Just trying to be the supplemental aid!

Your link reminded me I didn't save all of my bookmarks from work. Had lots of my fav river gauge sites saved.

"Only" 3.3 inches here. North and south got drowned big but it just sorta split around me. I am wondering about the fence I contracted to have built. They are out about 4 weeks but know if they drilled footing holes right now they would be filled with water. Not sure about the concrete footings if that is still the case in October.

Rained on me yesterday. Rained on me today. Supposed to rain on me tomorrow. It's getting past old.

Because of my free association brain this reminded me of Stewie and the Cowtones:

Warm today.
Warm yesterday.
Even warmer today.

It reminded me of one of JRR Tolkien's trolls in The Hobbit who says, "Mutton yesterday, mutton today, and blimey if it don't look like mutton again tomorrer."

And includes more references to poutine and tuques.
I am such a dork! I posted this just before I left for work this morning. In the cave. On a Trump thread. OY!!!

We went to see Anne Murray at Stephens Aud a few years ago. She STILL has an amazingly powerful, true voice. She does this thing at the end of her concerts where she invites the audience to suggest songs for her to sing...random songs, from a variety of genres. It's really amazing how many song lyrics are stored in that brain of hers...
