Random Thoughts VIII: The Ocho

Wonder who was at the door? Doorbell rang a few minutes ago but I was eating and drinking some Longboard while watch You're the Worst. So, like really busy, man. I just assume anyone who rings my bell is selling or soliciting something and I pretty much never answer.

Neighborhood must have a reputation as being a soft touch based on the number of people going door to door all of the time for just about every cause under the sun. I am not a cheapskate on charity, just like to do it online and when I want to, not when someone does.

Got one Guinness in the fridge that is looking tempting. Which says a lot because I won't drink a sixer by myself in a year.

Got back from the gym, and Z wanted to do Play-Doh, so I got down and we made Pokemons out of Play-Doh.

Dinner was ready, and my whole body was tired. Z said "Get up, get up."
I put my head down and said "I can't move, buddy. I've given up the ghost."
She laid down next to me and said "We've given up the ghost, Daddy."

It was sweet, but I suspect I've taught her something I didn't want her to know. Smooth.

It's pouring. Probably shouldn't have been driving. Definitely going to need to mow twice this weekend.

it poured here too. Got a little iffy on the interstate. Saw an accident on the other side. Road tends to flood by the gym. The underneath of my car got a real nice car wash. Waited to make sure the car ahead of me made it. They did, so I went for it. Car behind me did the same - they waited to see if I got through, haha.

No worries, it was like a stretch of maybe 30 yds? Just pooled water, not really moving and it was shallower toward the other side so I waited til no cars coming and tried to do that.

More dangerous was probably the pooling coming out from the median on the interstate. Hitting that decent speeds was a bit concerning.

Maybe - but these moments are so precious. Enjoy them!

Got off light on the rain, only 2 inches so far. Burbs north of me got 5 and Eau Claire WI got about 8 so far. Just the 2" has my little retention areas flooded and not soaking in because everything is saturated.

Why can't smokers and scratch ticket people buy everything at once. One guy bought beer, paid for it, then said he wanted some smokes, paid for them and then got scratch tickets. Next guy buys two cans of beer, pays for them and then decided he needs cigarettes.
Still blows my mind that smoking cigarettes is still a thing.

One thing that most people don't think about is that it's the uptake of water killing the engine that allows the car to be swept away or just flooded. Make sure you don't watch an SUV cross and then give it a shot with your Ferrari.

That's next month if I remember. Was going to go watch Dr. Strangelove at the theater (limited TCM sponsored showing) but decided to drink beer and eat Chinese instead.
Good choice. I left to pick up the son from confirmation last night, got about a block from home and could hear the hail hitting the roof of the new car.

That was probably the stripper-gram that I sent.

Back to random.

I saw a commercial last night for Canada Dry Ginger Ale. I got to thinking about it and I honestly cannot remember if I've ever had Ginger Ale in my whole life. Possibly when I was a little tyke. I think the name "Ginger Ale" sounded kind of yucky to me - so I always picked something else.
It's not my favorite but it's awfully good with Jameson. Incidentally, when I was in KC 2 years ago, I was ordering Jameson/ginger ale's and I was surprised how many bars in KC don't have ginger ale. One place did make a fake ginger ale using Sprite and bitters. It was quite good.
