Random Thoughts VIII: The Ocho

Given a choice, I'll take woods, all day, every day. It's why I live in the middle of 3 acres of woods (not old growth, sadly...the area was logged in the 30's so our oaks are "maybe" 80 years old). A couple are big enough that if the two of us try to reach around them our fingertips don't touch. I love the wildlife sheltered in there.

I like woods, ocean, desert. But lived for 20 years with a lot full of mature oaks. Yes, I loved the wildlife (except the deer eating the flowers), but the oak leaves were a huge mission every fall. They start falling, then continue falling, then fall a bit more. Then it frosts and most of the rest of them fall. Then spring finally comes and the last of them fall.

I just really like the idea of being on a homestead (yes, with some trees!) out in the middle of nowhere, like an island in the middle of the ocean or an oasis in the desert. It'll probably never happen, but that's my ideal.

Just realized that when my buyer said she was going to buy something she didn't buy the full amount and they are not due in until November and I need them now. Today could be going better.

Your comments on 7th grade volleyball bring back memories of 5th grade band concerts. There's very little to be said for a "concert" performed by kids who have probably been playing their instruments 25 minutes a week for 10 weeks...
But hey, it's your kids, and you go in support of their efforts, not their results. :)

While engaged to my wife I went to an elementary concert. The 5-6 band had two songs to play. I saw them sit, tune their instruments and the teacher turn and say, for our last song. That tuning that was going on?, turned out to be the first song.

I was actually impressed with our 5th grand band improvement from the winter concert to the spring concert. That was enough years ago, now we get to do it all over again. Kids are just starting wit instruments tomorrow.

And tomorrow I get to go from good 8th grade volleyball to rec 5th/6th grade volleyball and try to show just as much enthusiasm for both.

Got a call from the school bus director today and they are putting our stop on a different/less crowded bus. We had getting out the door timed perfectly, now the kids have to be ready 10min earlier. This could be interesting.

I got Texas. Then I went back and changed the 4 answers I was in-between on to the other and got New York.

Also, talking about requirements/admission. Fun Fact: I was denied acceptance to Iowa State at first. Took 3 letters of recommendation to accept me. For a little while there I almost went to Ohio State.
