Your post reminded me of a radio commercial that has started running here in Iowa. Sen. Grassley is stumping for one of the candidates who used to be his chief of staff. It's all about clipping the toenails of your constituents if that's what they need. Part of me wonders if it's a ham-handed allusion to washing the feet of your disciples...
I've heard Char or Lottie. But I would insist on Charlotte until said child decides they wish to be called some nickname. It can be done, BFF's name is Elizabeth and the only time I ever heard someone call her otherwise was one professor in college who always called her Liz. She said she let him because he was nice, but no one else was allowed to.
My cousin loved everything about France, named her kids Marcel, Etienne, & Lucien. Yeah. They didn't get teased or anything....

Isn't Dominic basically Italian? Fine if he's going to end up a hit man in Jersey, but not sure I'd pick it for a Midwesterner.
Mostly people would end up calling him Dom, which is not so great, or Nick which I don't mind so much.
I had a friend from long ago. He and his wife named their only daughter Petrushka. I don't think either one cares/cared about Stravinsky or ballet. How many times do you think she got weird looks from people meeting her for the first time?
