He needs to cut his nails!

Also, I have the same thing where my second toe is longer than my big toe. I hate it.

It's called morton's toe...I have it, too.

Dang, I missed the fun. I could have squicked rocks out with the birthmark on the bottom of my foot. (Just a small wine stain type. Best place to have one)

Are you sure it's not just....you know.....wine?

Her parents used to sneak a grape into her shoe every day, when she got married, that's how her husband knew he was accepted, they took him aside right before the ceremony and told him of the ruse, and snuck a bag of grapes into their getaway bags.

This almost sounds like a fairy tale. You should totally write that children's book.

OK, Pants...random again...when we were in Maui, I commented that I could see myself getting a place there...we stayed in a place that's a 'hotel'/condo, wherein the room we stayed in was a condo unit owned by people and rented out as a hotel room when the owners weren't there. I was talking about something like that, but the wife thought I was talking about moving there. She was like "No way...you're stranded here", referring to the fact that in Ioway...you want to get away, you jump in the car and drive how ever many thousands of miles you want to drive, but in HI, unless you want to spring for a plane ticket to the mainland or own a seafaring boat or long haul plane, you're on that set of islands.

Do you ever feel that way?

True story, I own a reprinted copy of the original Grimms fairy tales. That **** is dark.

Yeah, that's the funny thing about it...I took the class as my humanities credit my last semester with my disney-ised thoughts of what they were, thinking...ahh, here's some easy stuff...yeah, it is not the sing-a-long cartoon stuff that most people think it is, and it was a lot deeper of a class than I thought I signed up for.

No. That's a thing you hear about all the time. They call it Rock Fever. You get nervous and freak out because you can't. But you know how many times I've decided to just up and drive to another state (outside of as a teen, since I grew up 20 minutes from the Minnesota border)? Never. Not once. In Indiana, the only time I left state was if it was a planned ahead trip. And I think MOST people are the same way. They just freak out when the option (that most people never use) is taken away from them.

But to answer, no, I never feel that way, mostly because I know deep down, I never would have done anything like that on the mainland in the first place.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I thought. I think the other part too is that we were mainly in one little section of Maui (we were only there like 4 days, I think, for the SIL's wedding), so I think she was thinking about that as HI, but in actuality, (or my perception) if you want big city stuff, it's there...you want totally remote stuff, it's there. Yes, it's more of a 'thing' to get to mainland, but most of the scenarios you might want to get into exist on the islands.

I guess it's academic because the whole premise of the argument was based on a misinterpretation of my comment, and we're probably faaar removed from buying a vacation home in HI, but I thought it was a good late night question.

It also matters that you were on Maui. Maui is more country, more rural. If you up and leave a state randomly on a trip, it's usually because you're bored. But if you live on Oahu, there's PLENTY to do without being bored. I think it's all about perspective, really.

I was an 8 hour drive from Indy to my hometown where family is. Now I'm an 8 hour flight away. It's more expensive and more of a hassle, but the time it takes to get home is roughly the same (unless it's an awful layover somewhere. )

We were in Kaanapali, but spent some time in Lahaina and went up into the hills to the winery there. I think that might have been part of what triggered that reaction from her. I mean, we're not in the big city, but we're a 20 minute drive from WalMart (if that's your thing), Target, a mall, several home improvement stores, yadda, yadda, yadda...and where we were staying was so heavily resort surrounded by rural that she didn't see the sweet spot.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to retire to Maui, the Big Island or Kauai, but as a single 31 year old dude, I'm more than happy with Oahu. If I want the Maui feel, it's an hour and a half long drive to the North Shore. If I want the Big Island feel, it's an hour and a half long drive to the Leeward side. My goal is to get out of Honolulu next year though, but stay close to it still.

My little gecko buddy. He's been hanging around and on my door for a little under the last week every night. I'm going to name him. I posted it on Facebook, but I'll take name suggestions here too.
