I can't say how many times in my life I have shot a staple into a finger when trying to get a stapler unjammed.Staple- 1

Mine is somewhat quieter after Overhead Door replaced my heavy solid wood door. Still no where near as quiet as the opener at Mom's house. The good people at Overhead Door of Fort Dodge showed up bright and early yesterday to fix my garage door problem (broken chain). They installed a new opener, including a wireless entry pad on the exterior, which we didn't have before.
It works fabulous! Mostly, it's much quieter than the old one. That used to drive me nuts. I actually stood in the garage and ran it up and down a couple times, marveling at how quiet it is.![]()
A few years ago we were re-roofing the house - after yet another hailstorm - and I was moving the nail gun across in my hand with my finger on the trigger. Brushed the trip against my shoe and promptly shot a nail through the tip of my sneaker. Just missed the big toe. Lucky!!!!
I can't say how many times in my life I have shot a staple into a finger when trying to get a stapler unjammed.
I just try to stay away from them now if at all possible.
Staple gun or regular
Full disclosure: I have never stapled myself or nailed myself with a nail gun.
Worst nailing thingie was smashing my thumb with a 24-oz framing hammer just before I supposed to drive to Boundary Waters with CWW#2. In that instant before the pain started I looked and saw the waffle pattern from the hammer face on my thumb and thought "Oh, ****, this is gonna hurt". Drove that afternoon with my thumb on the air conditioner vent trying to chill the throbbing.
PS Still remember exactly what I was hammering: 10d nails through 1/2" plywood in interior of the stair tower of the house I now live next door to. I remember cursing those ******* 10d's like 4" o.c. and the damn structural engineer (can we use the 8d's? No!) that designed that "diaphragm" detail. BTW, 1979 or 1980!

I had a screw put into the end of my middle finger when a carpenter missed the stud putting up sheetrock right where my finger was. I had already had a tetanus shot a month earlier from when I had stepped on a nail so some antibiotic ointment, gauze and tape was all I did. I would cut scar tissue off the tip of my finger for practically 20 years.Full disclosure: I have never stapled myself or nailed myself with a nail gun.

Some guys swing big hammers. Not trying to be too judgy, but isn't a waffled 24-oz hammer a little overkill for 10d's through 1/2" plywood?
