Dementia sucks. It's as bad or worse on the family.
Time to do what I'm not known for, a little brown nosing or butt kissing. There was an old timer that I would go and drink coffee with on occasion, he passed a few months ago, and these other guys would show up. Two of them oversee several of the local scholarships that are handed out. Since they will be deciding in a couple weeks, better go reacquaint myself with them since this town rewards more for politics than for achievement. Kid decided too late about ISU and we missed the scholarship deadlines for there. Besides, since I'm paying for his schooling, it is actually saving me money.
REMINDER: Federal income taxes need to be in the mail today. Have mine done and will pick up mom's and get hers mailed also. First quarterly payment due also. Wish everyone had to write a check for what they pay in taxes, would make them pay more attention to what happens when they see that amount .

There it is. My manager is looking over my expenses and is asking me if I rented a motorcycle in Bermuda. This will be a fun one. I never asked if I was allowed to rent the scooter or if I was supposed to take a taxi. I did save $500 in taxi fares though. Thats gotta count for something

Called a local clinic last week to learn about prices for uninsured people, since I'm having some residual blood pressure issues after another allergy exposure. They wanted to set up an appointment, I asked repeatedly about costs first.
Business office was supposed to call me back. Unsurprisingly, they never have. It's almost like I'm a low priority to them.
Just a bit more jaded from that one. It's a shame, too. Some folks from our church really did some neat reaching out to help. That probably reduces some jading, but not for the clinic.

Many churches, as you are probably aware of, have compassion funds to help out people in your situation.

Yup. Ours reached out minutes after they found out. Like, really, just a few minutes, and maybe only a couple. It was quick.

And the bad news that I stalled and then forgot to give is done.
I was part of a panel that actually got accepted for a conference. First time, there (though probably to gain new memberships more than anything else).
I expected to be in better shape when I joined that panel. Then I expected it would be cancelled when we weren't in better shape.
Finally, I notified the conference itself that I couldn't do the membership and withdrew.
The grad student organizing the panel just noticed that I'm not there. Now she knows, and probably gained a painful insight into life after graduation.

I started a news thread on it but someone quoted Trump's tweet on it and than the political bickering started with the Trump fans getting all cranky. Caved it. Just as well, it was attracting every ******* on CF and there are a lot of them. Like moths to a flame they are. I am starting to kinda hate this place.
I hope to hell Trump doesn't start tweeting about the Game of Thrones or that thread will get tanked to. Since the show is now ahead of the books the spoiler ******** have nothing to spoil so most of them are gone which is nice.

Lawman I probably took your "hold my beer" comment the wrong way is why you got the funny. I associate it with one upping the silly/stupid factor. Then I realized you might have meant leave me a beer so I can have one once I'm done with work.
bitter to some, but sweet to me.
Or maybe both...just finished filing the last returns and extensions. This tax season was a *****. Glad to see it over.
