They have problems doing subcuticulars on me. They're supposed to dissolve in a few weeks. Something about my body chemistry screws that up, and pieces of them start working their way up & out of the skin. I had one that formed a granuloma after one of my elbow surgeries, and I ended up having to have surgery to remove the damn stitch. Oy! I usually warn surgeons now, and they do the old fashioned kind of stitches for the most part.

Got home. Doctor neighbor is moving. Struggling to back up a trailer, doing the classic rookie mistakes. Wondered if I should go help but didn’t want to make him feel bad. He gave up and whipped it around front, somehow he put the trailer tires on his lawn as he drove in front. He took off so I guess I don’t need to help.
I'm fairly decent at backing a trailer, but I do it almost daily, with short trailers too which are harder. Hate backing on a busy road into a driveway though.

Took till after 3:00 but finally subdue my inner sloth and went for a 20 mile ride. Bastard was pretty strong considering how sunny and nice it was. He's usually stronger on gloomy days. DND.

Spied a a guy that looked just like KC's Lew, same hair and beard. Was riding a road bike with the narrowest tires I've seen in some time. And wearing a Grateful Dead bike jersey.

Lew would have been shirtless

I’m am past the point of irritated, I’m just POd now. If you set a zoom meeting with me and you have dogs barking in the background, or you gotta stop so you can take care of them, or young kids screaming or you gotta take care of them; I think I’m just going to hang up. I can’t remember the last zoom call where one of those hasn’t happened and it added a decent chunk of time to it or caused issues being able to hear things. I have things squared away before the meeting, why can’t you?

It’s always a joy when the dogs see a bird they want to bark at (or God forbid someone walks by) or the kids decide to walk in. The adventures of remote work.

I go downstairs to a secluded room, shut the door and put a note up that says in zoom meeting if I’m not the only one home. The dog is let out and water/fed before the meeting. If it’s a weekend thing, I give a little more grace. If it’s a week day, I’ve now had my fill. This may sound mean, but it’s not my issue if they are not wanting to do what I have always done, and why should I be inconvenienced and waste my time for it?

Probably depends more on who set the meeting and who’s higher ranked in the company.

With so many people working from home you get this all the time, TV or radio in the background, dogs barking, babies crying. People in India out on the street so you hear all the street noise.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had a blank screen when dealing with someone and you are trying to show them something and you have no idea if they are following along or you can hear them whispering in the background after their head turns, video goes blank and then they mute. Normally I will pause at that point if that person is important and wait for them to get back on if I’m leading a section.

When it comes down to who has rank, I honestly have never let that affect me. Believe it or not, if something is off, I will give my opinion whether it ruffles feathers or not. It’s the way I operate, if I feel something isn’t right, I say so, if they hold that against me then I know it’s not the place I care to be. Life is simplier that way, IMO.

Everyone I have worked with over the last few years basically accepts it as the new normal as long as you are prompt with muting when stuff happens. My ooppss recently was not realizing I was unmuted during a meeting with several hundred people and they could apparently hear MrsWx washing dishes in the other room as that was the only other noise. My all time favorite a year or two ago was our CFO on her town hall meeting with several thousand of us around the world saying “we have a snow day today so I have kindly threatened my children to stay off the internet for this hour”. Was a good reminder that none of us are immune.

Forecast for chances of rain the last couple of days were a fizzle. Now just crazy windy.

Wondering what to do with plants I just bought. Plant them and than have them all die while I take some days to roadie to see sister and nieces. Maybe I can talk neighbors into watering them if I leave a couple of buckets out. Really dry and no rain in forecast for the week, again.

They make devices that are bulbs that you fill with water and they soak out as the soil goes dry. They obviously are for potted plants. Not sure how well they work but it’s worth a shot if all else fails.

Personally I don’t see this as relevant. We hired sitters or took our kids to childcare, are those services completely gone now?
In some places probably, in others it might just be unfeasible due to cost, the daycare is full, live far from family (who might be able to care for the child), don't trust the family to take care of the child, etc.

My take is just that most parents understand having a crying or whining baby/toddler/young child during a meeting is not ideal and is distracting. So if they had a better realistic option they would use it. That's not always going to be the case, but I think generally that is true.
