Hi everyone
I just wanted to let you all know that Kilauea, one of the five volcanoes on the Big Island of Hawaii, burst back into life yesterday morning and is erupting inside its summit crater (caldera).
This is brilliant! It was doing the same for the group last year and then stopped. I am hoping that it continues to erupt for us through October (it often goes for years before a short pause).
Is this dangerous? No - this is a safe eruption and we will be able to walk up to the edge of the caldera and look in (at night is the best). That said, we will always follow the direction of the scientific and emergency experts to keep everyone safe.
I will send out a newsletter in July with some updates.
So for now - have a wonderful summer/winter (for those down under).
Isn't it pretty much always erupting? Here's me in 1993 with it flowing into the ocean. No night pics. We walked out with flashlights through the lava field on a semi-guided tour. Was NPS but still was pretty sketchy. Was a bring your own torch and all we had was a couple of cheapie plastic jobs we bought at the hotel.
This is a safe zone, we will keep our judgements to a minimum.

Got to work. Went to the bathroom. Sat down to do my business. Look over at the dual toilet paper rolls. One is completely empty and the other is placed so that the paper rolls under. This day is off to an inauspicious start.

Smoking a pork butt today, now it's starting to look like a storm might be headed my way. 
We need the rain but darn, they called for a chance of rain every day this week and the days have been great. The only rain we got was Wednesday about 7-8pm.
27% chance today and 70% chance Saturday & Sunday so I decided it had to be today. Internal is up to 118 so I have quite a way to go.
