PSU Campbell Presser

So again, he wasn’t actually offered the job at USC, Riley was. He wasn’t actually offered the NFL jobs, teams just talked to him. That’s my point.

He didn’t have the offers, so he didn’t say no.
Never said he was offered the usc job. Again, it didn’t take him 10 years to find a better job than Iowa State.

Well he was very complimentary to start (see below)... would be interesting to see a clip.

Thank you so much to the people who gave me the opportunity to get richer. I love you more than anything and care about you more than anything. That is why I’m gutting your program and leaving you in a hole that will be tough to climb out of… maybe I’m a bit bitter but that’s what I’m hearing …

Again, is there a source besides trust me bro. I’m super open to being convinced on this. But for years everyone has just accepted this as fact because they like CMC and said he was different. Now that we know he’s not different I’m opening the idea back up again

There is a recent podcast where Purdy talks about how Campbell was close to accepting the USC job but ultimately turned it down. That’s about as close as you are ever going to get for confirmation that a coach had an offer and turned it down.

Okay friendly spartan, you have it all figured out. The guy that was at the top of every media personalities coach list for every vacancy the last 8 seasons was finally able to get that big break this year and get the heck out of Ames after his first offer. He must just be terrible at interviews. Maybe he gets nervous.

I think it’s the same source you have.

Weird stuff happens, and honestly, while jobs are offered and maybe terms are agreed to, they don’t happen.

The Mayor was litterally about to take the Gophers job…

Urban Meyer said once that Campbell called him because he was offered a job at a big time program. Meyer said he told Campbell to take it but Campbell turned it down.

I assumed he was talking about USC.

Between his talking up of what a great culture Paterno had and having Urban as a trusted mentor, Im starting to question Matt’s judge of character.

Think it was fairly well known his family preferred living in Minneapolis over living in Ames. Kind of a unique situation there with his time as player and front office guy with the T Wolves

Thanks! That’s what I was looking for

Also thanks to the other person who mentioned purdy’s podcast.
8 year, 68.5 million was the offer to coach the lions. Was also very far along in the Washington search and believe he had an offer there, but don't remember details. I don't know if they got to an offer, but Florida State literally showed up in Ames to hire him so that was his if he wanted it.
