Principal Layoffs - 3-10-09

I got a random email from a guy who knows I get a ton of info from this site. He's got relatives there.

A week doesn't go by at PFG where there aren't rumors of impending "lay-offs". Everybody knows somebody "high up".

Not saying it won't happen, just saying that if you get all worked up every time you hear one of these rumors you're going to give yourself an ulcer.

Have your friends been hearing about this?

I talked to one last Saturday, who said he had to use up about 100 hours of personal time before May. They don't get, for example, two weeks of vaction or two weeks of sick leave. They get a bunch of hours they can use any way they want.

My apologies for stringing this out :chatterbox: , but no, he did not say anything about more layoffs coming. I should give him a call today.

This in not new news....it was in the 'news' a few weeks ago. They cut everyone's pay and put a lower cap on PTO hours. All in an effort NOT to lay more people off.

You are right. I thought you meant if he knew about the latest layoffs -- and he never mentioned it.

Here are some of the typical company ways to react ot a downturn including moving to mexico: The Toyota company also said it has taken these actions: reduced executive and management pay by 30 percent, frozen all salary increases, eliminated bonuses, established a hiring freeze and eliminated overtime. It is also offering employees a voluntary four-day work week, offering a voluntary buyout program to all salaried employees, and cutting capital and other spending.

Sorry...not slamming you.

Rumors are rampant, yes. I know my boss is still being told to cut budget and he's struggling to do that without cutting people. Other areas may still lose people before this is over....and soon.

I didn't take it as a slam.

I took it as a gentle nudge that I took too long to say, "My friend at Principle didn't say anything about future layoffs."
