No chance. I love Tamin. If he decides it’s time to get paid, he’ll transfer, and I’ll only be a little mad. But he’s just not an NBA point guard.
I would be shocked if Lipsey plays in the NBA - that's not a knock on him as a good collegiate player, it's all about what he does well and what will (or will not) transition to NBA style.

I get the reasons people are giving against Tamin being in the NBA. While I don't think he'd match up well against a lot of current NBA PGs, I've watched enough NBA to know that he could be just as serviceable of a back-up as some that are already in the league.

I don't pretend to be a scout, but I'm genuinely surprised at some of the exclusions and inclusions every year. I feel like the size-card gets a little over-used when Tamin's name comes up, though. There are a LOT of PGs on this list between 6'1" and 6'2"

Even if Tamin isn't likely to go... it's still a possibility.

Having another upperclassmen PG ready to go for next year is going to be essential.

If Tamin returns... then you have more flexibility to play Tamin off the ball (which you might need to do with his shooting and scoring ability at the college level) and have a PG when Tamin goes off. Having Gilbert around gives you this flexibility right now. I would imagine Warley replicates it.

If Tamin leaves to "sell high" with the NBA... then you've got your replacement.

I doubt TJ wants any scenario where he goes into next year with either a freshman PG starting (and yes Tamin did but that was something of an injury-related emergency and Tamin was exceptionally ready to play in the Big 12 as a freshman) or clearly trying to play one of the SGs (e.g., Nojus) out of position.

Aren’t we losing Jones, Gilbert, Chatfield, Jackson as seniors? With possibly Milan as an underclassman?
Jackson is listed as a senior but has two years of eligibility, just like Curtis Jones last year.

I very much agree. Without even more development as a scorer/shooter, Tamin's ceiling is lower due to his height and limited run/jump athleticism. However, his profile compares very well to a lot of guys who have had really nice careers as good backup PGs who might start on the right team or are serviceable as injury replacements. Jamal Shead is a great comp for Lipsey, and he just got drafted mid-second round and is averaging the 14th-most minutes per game of any rookie this season (albeit for a very bad team).

Now I'm not sure Lipsey would leave early just to have a shot at being a 2nd round pick at best. But regardless, this transfer could be good for taking some pressure off of Lipsey as a ball handler and give Moore, Toure, and Batemon a year to adapt. Comparing this season and last to the first two seasons of Otz's tenure, it's easy to see the value of having multiple ball handlers on the court at a time.

Ok hear me out and flame away if you want. But I see Tamin as almost as good as Monte. He isn’t as tall but he is stronger and is likely as good or even better athlete. I’d say shooting at this stage is comparable. His defense is pretty good as well. Monte generated a lot of steals so I liked him as a defender. Monte was better as a pure point guard with lack of turnovers.

I see the potential for Tamins NBA career as sort of similar provided he gets there. Monte wasn’t guaranteed either.

This is not a knock on Monte Morris. Loved that kid. Very nice to talk too when I had the chance.

I tend to agree that Lipsey's chances in the league are limited, but I said the same thing about Niang too

I was skeptical of Niang and Morris. I'm not sure how Lipsey projects at the professional level, but I don't think he leaves early.

I would also venture a guess nobody would have thought hali would have had the success that he has has as well.
But 6'5 point guard that shoots it well from distance and can score at all levels gives him quite a higher floor than where Lipsey is. Physically, total offense and ability to match up on different defensive positions.
