Post-game thread - ISU vs. Iowa

Good game Clones. I thought I would throw my 2 cents in about you team after seeing them play. You have a fun team to watch when they are rolling. Brackins obviously was a little too much to handle. I think the Clones need Garrett to really step his game up and become more consistent. I don't know how consistent Colvin has been but he certainly seems to have more upside and a better feel/on-court IQ in my opinion than Garrett (Is it spelled with 2 t's?). It is a night and day difference from seeing the Clones last year by having a guys like Gilstrap and Dendy to compliment Brackins. They have certainly raised your team athleticism.

My biggest ? going forward is with Staiger. I just got the sense that someting was missing with the Clone team watching that game that maybe keeps them from being as good as they should be and I think that is Staiger. He needs to be more Matt Gatens and less Devan Balwinkle.

Come on people, let's not complain! We just beat the Hawks. Enjoy knowing we just frustrated the Hawk fans. Always something to complain about...

We took our foot off the gas, and Iowa hit like 5 straight 3 point shots, while we missed FT after FT. Although it was a discouraging finish, we were still 15-20 points better tonight.

It seems to be a bit of a pattern with this team so far. They get on a little roll, and then seem to lose just a bit of focus, and play outside the offense (and the defense suffers too).

Good to see Dendy getting some quality minutes, and I love Colvin's defense and hustle. Diante had another solid game.

Pretty good analysis, but I'd just throw in that Staiger will never be like Gatens. Gatens brings much more to the table than Staiger. Staiger will hit the open three, and make the post feed, but that's about it.

BTW, where was Bawinkle tonight? He can change the game if he gets open, but teams are getting wise to that.

I'm sorry people. I'm glad they won....it would have been embarrassing if they hadn't....but I was not impressed with what I saw.

Iowa is a bad team. Yet, they won the second half, and it wasn't just at the end either. Again, ISU got out-rebounded. By Iowa.......IOWA! Wasn't GMac supposedly going to work on that in these days off they had? Well, it didn't work. CB looked better, but still takes way too many 3's. Lucca is basically useless except for an occasional 3 point shot. Gilstrap still cannot control his body much of the time and travels, or gets an offensive foul.

The worse part of all this is the coaching. There were times tonite that ISU still let Iowa dictate the pace. The weak press was on and then off, even if it was working. I just don't understand what GMac is doing at all, and I don't think his players do either. In the half-court offense, all they do is stand around. And they all dribble much more then they pass. That is bad coaching.

I'm sorry, but I did not see the improvement in the team tonite. I just saw a potentially good team playing a very bad team, like the first 4 games of the season. ISU won because of superior speed and athletic ability. That won't be the case in the Big 12. I doubt it will even be the case against Bradley or Houston. Certainly not against Duke.

I hope the team lives up to their potential against Bradley and Houston, but with this coach I have my doubts. I just did not see the problems from the last 3 games addressed tonite.

After how miserable I felt the last week and half, any win feels good at this point. We had a tough stretch with those three losses but we're not dead yet.

One game at a time...

Good game, glad to see a win instead of a loss, as always. LOVED that pass behind Garret to Dendy for the dunk. Probably even more so because it means the team is starting to get its swagger back after it disappeared against Northwestern. Will be much needed going into the remainder of the non-conference season.

I'm guessin' you're one of those "glass is half-full" types, am I right?

OK win. One thing I don't understand is even if it is the end of the game and you have the lead, why don't you take layups when the are given to you. SC had the right idea when he took it right to the hole and laid it in.

I thought we looked a lot better on offense. Better ball movement and better shots usually.

A little better limiting Iowa's offensive rebounds but still a lot of work to do.

Our defense is not good. Our guards give up dribble penetration way too much and in conference play they will make us pay a lot more than Iowa did tonight. I thought we did much better stepping out and defending on screens.

I wish Ham would dunk the darn ball!

Good win - we beat Iowa - yeah!!

He may be taking it to extreme, but everything in his post is a concern. Remember that we just beat one of the worst BCS teams in the country by 10 points. The fact that the lead was almost double before the last 2 minutes makes me even more concerned. We are not going to win close games that way.

I would still like to know how it is that Iowa out rebounded us? Anyone?

Nice to win after the last 3 games but to give up that many open threes at the end of a game is unacceptable, period. If guys don't want to defend, get them off the floor.

I wish 6'-4" DG would dunk the ball. DG finally showed a little emotion tonight, but was outplayed by Colvin IMO.
