Sure glad all these schools have canceled and not a single snowflake has hit the concrete in the metro area.

I hate going all "back in my day" old man (I'm only 36) in situations like this, but seriously, school cancellations 20 years ago were so rare we would go some school years without any cancellations at all. And trudging through 6-10" of snow to get to school wasn't out of the norm. Not only that, but they would wait until the last possible minute to cancel school, when we had cancellations coming in early evening last night when nothing had even happened in the entire state.

Freezing Rain/Sleet/Snow in rural Mahaska Co. Schools are cancelled. I am sitting in my sweats at 8:12 AM, drinking Coffee, and on CF (FINALLY DAMMIT!). It's gonna be a good day.

most schools haven't had a snow day or even a delay this year. Not a bad idea to be careful with this storm.

We are scheduled to get out the 20th of May. Since we are now on hours, the kids are already scheduled for 3 days over what they need in a year. Teachers have to make it up, but it is now really a no brainer to call of school for these things.

Currently in Des Moines, will be heading back home to Newton this afternoon to pick up my wife, then heading to Ames to deliver/pickup client tax information and then finally will end up at Hilton for the basketball game.

School districts cover a larger area now. In rural areas you have kids that drive a half hour to get to school and districts that can be an hour across. It is much better to pull the trigger early and look silly than it is to drag a dead kid out of the ditch.

Working at home on the west side of DSM. Couple of power blinks but nothing major. Not sure what would take out our buried power lines unless if something blew a big transformer or something.

Sounds like most of my coworkers drove in to the office today since working at home is apparently "not viewed positively" around my office. Whatever. I'm cozy and safe at home.
