Possible candidates for ISU's open OC position...

I find the amount of talk Sage is getting fascinating. There is a 0.00% chance Sage even gets a phone call...I mean, it's just not going to happen. I guess it's fun to talk about and I love Sage but c'mon. Austin Flynn should be getting the talk that Sage is getting. At least Flynn has proven he can coach.

Well, he was a back-up QB in the NFL, that makes him the solution to all of our problems on this site.

Not seeing mentions of Bob Cole, NIU's OC, but I'm not eliminating him as a possibility. Surprise hires happen frequently.

I think he was referring to the OC picking Utah over ISU, not how good the OC was.

He might just not be on our shortlist.

I also think this was what he meant...another way to spin this positively for ISU (and it's complete conjecture) is that if ISU had 3 similarly qualified candidates on the short list and was going thru the selection process, whereas Utah (if the Whittingham comment above is true) said...hey...you want the job? We're not interviewing anyone else if you want it.

I think Klenakis or Sturdy will co-OC. If not, we may see more movement with the staff. It will be difficult to find a "seasoned" OC with major college experience who will not want to bring his OL and WR guy. Those are the two most critical positions when you talk about "transitioning to a new scheme" because they're the most difficult pieces to teach. A new guy will not want to have to teach our current staff then have to rely on them to teach it like he wants it taught to the players. RB coach is less critical even though it's the open position. Now, if we plan on keeping the zone scheme, one of the current members on staff is your new OC or co-OC's. There would be nothing new to teach and replacing the RB coach is not that big of deal.

We need a QB coach AND an OC

I think we all get that. Question is, will CPR split the OC/QB coach position to two separate coaching positions? If so, I vote for Austin Flynn for QB coach; shoot, he helped win a NC for crying out loud even if was the NAIA.

Was he the QB coach?

I am starting to think noone wants the OC position. This is taking forever.

Nonsense. ISU is a great opportunity for a young up-and-comer to prove their self at the next level. If you can put up decent numbers @ ISU in the Big 12 following the dismal offensive production we've had lately, you obviously know what the hell you're doing. Paul SHOULD take his time and make sure he gets this one right. It took him awhile to land Wally Burnham. Have patience.

If you can call a draw or middle screen or slant over the middle, you will be fine in Ames.
