True, I seriously just cannot believe that.

I am very thankful to not have been effected at all. Lots of people I know have but thankfully I've been alright.

Mostly indirectly affected... my parent's house is alarmingly close to some of the Raccoon River flood waters. We had a brief worry that they could reach our yard, but then found out from neighbors that the '93 waters never passed the train tracks. Mother also works downtown relatively close to the river, and was one of those to leave work early.

Directly affected - Can't go to Bars/I-Cubs this weekend, and volunteer sandbagger.

If you live in Des Moines or surrounding areas, you are affected in some manner.

Edit: Since some might take the previous as a crude joke I will include... my parents basement was flooded as they lost power and eventually the sub pump.

I had a bit of water in my basement in cedar rapids. due to saturated ground and lots of rain - not river flooding. not too bad though, all things considered.

other than that, I'm affected in the sense that my hometown's downtown is pretty much whiped out.

Home and buildings are fine. About 180 acres of crops under water. Could be worse--hoping this is as bad as it gets this year.

My wife's sisters house in Cedar Rapids is under about 6-7 ft of water.

Fortunately, for me in Oskaloosa, only water in the basement so far, but the city of Eddyville, where I work, is bracing of impact Sunday or Monday, so I am sure it will get worse. We are directly south of Lake Red Rock

Water in basement, no water for 5 days, water in family's basements. We still had it a lot better up here in Mason City than everybody else down south.

I'm in NE Illinois and have been pretty lucky this year. I don't live near any rivers and it's only close to rivers that people seem to be affected here.

I was in Ames for the '93 flood and going down to help my parents out in Des Moines as often as I could. It was crazy. I feel absolutely terrible for the people having to deal with this on any level. It really is amazing and frightening to see what nature can do. The only way this has affected me really, is that I spend a little extra time praying for everyone dealing with it.

I live in California and have no relatives in Eastern Iowa, but it has affected my business. We buy 8 unit trains a month of corn, as well as corn gluten, DDG, etc (corn byproducts). The flooding and wet weather has influenced the price of corn (smokin' high) as well as put pressure on rail logistics on getting products out here. Obviously this is nothing when compared to loss of life, property, and flood damage, but just is an interesting note that even though we are ~2000 miles away the flood and rain has impacted our business significantly.

I have a storage facility in palo that probably has somewhere between 6-8 foot of water in each of the 250 units. I have alot of customers that have lost alot of belongings as well as I have lost alot of belongings in it as well.

There have been no photos from the air of palo, so no one knows how bad it got.

Directly affecting my work...Our office is at 100 Court Avenue, 3rd floor above Buzzard Billy's.

I'll be working in Muscatine next week with the rest of my office at our corporate headquarters.

I'm real close to the river here in Iowa City (yeah- not by choice, but for school. I still bleed cardinal and gold). And it is getting horrible here. I'm not under water yet but I really can't go anywhere. There are a lot of people that are going to lose pretty much everything. It's really a lot worse than I think a lot of people realize.

I live in Norwalk. So far no water in the basement and no trouble getting to work in the mornings to work in Ames... Usually beat the flow of traffic.

I over look construction projects in Western Iowa and I have to say we are so far behind because of all the rain. Almost impossible to get any digging done or anything.

So I am affect through work.

Personally, unless the water or power shuts down in Norwalk... I'm really not bothered too much. Plus, I have to be in Nw Iowa all weekend to prepare for our upcoming wedding.
