First, my boat and lift floated about 2 miles downstream at Lake Delhi from my cabin. Thankfully the dam opened its gates in time and the water level went back down and the boat, still in the lift, got stuck on the bottom of the channel. We found it Monday night about 1/4 mile from the dam. Had the water level not gone down (or if we hadn't gotten it out before Tuesday morning's close of one of three dam gates) the boat would have drifted and I would have had a complete loss. Last heard 13+ boats got sucked under the dam.

Second, my brother got evacuated from his Waverly home but the latest I heard the water was contained to his basement... inches from his first floor. His family is being evacuated again tomorrow but it's not supposed to crest anywhere near what it did earlier in the week. So I assume he's seen the worst of it already.

Third, Deere also got hit in Waterloo. Although I work for Deere in Davenport, my same brother is a facilities engineer at the Waterloo plant and is heavily involved in the efforts to minimize the impact.

See pic which shows the lift the Tuesday morning after we got the boat back to shore.

You know, living here in Germany, you'd think we'd be totally unaffected.... but yesterday evening my sister-in-law and kids showed up on my front door. They decided that the flooding, which completely cuts their house off from civilization (but won't flood it) was a good reason for an impromptu "European Vacation."

It's great to have them.

File me under indirectly affected as well, I also clicked not directly affected myself because the flood waters won't come anywhere near where I live here in Pella or in my childhood home, but it is creeping close to where my mom works in Cedar Rapids.

I also found out today that my cousin, who lives in Waverly and has an apartment near the river there, lost everything when water seeped into the second level of her apartment where she had moved everything to try and keep it out of the flood waters. So I feel really bad for her right now.

The other thing is that if I wanted to head home from Pella it would probably be near impossible. The best possible route for me to get home would be to go over to 35 and up to highway 20 towards Manchester, adding an extra hour to my trip. Suffice to say I will be staying here this weekend, though I do wish I could see the damage in CR in person.
