Please disregard thread

im hardly a JP fan boy, but where would have Iowa State got the money to even remotely somewhat compare to the investment penn state was making at the time?
There was nothing that could have been done that wouldn't have been a stupid waste of money. And there was no reason to be pissed at Cael for leaving. This isn't like a guy making more money than he can spend to make even more money he can't spend. That type of raise for Cael and the money PSU was willing to throw at the program was absolutely life changing for Cael and not something ISU could, or should have tried to compete with.

It sucks for fans of the sport, but wrestling is not an investment. It's not going to be an income generator for the AD. Those were super lean times for ISU athletics, the football arms race was at 11 at the time, and it was pretty clear to most that a basketball hire was going to have to happen.

Now do XC and TF.

Not going to anymore. I’m going to agree with them that our fans can be ridiculous and keep their head in the sand.
Why would you care what they think or feel the need to “defend” anyway? Seems weird to even care. They’re obsessed with Iowa St, WGAF

I think the pressure of current Campbell sweepstakes is getting to Pollard. He is making unforced errors in these interviews. I sympathize to a point, but this is also what he's paid to do. IMO, he should step back from the mic and recompose himself.

Look on the bright side, at least he didn't threaten to close down a building this time.

Upset with what JP said and how he may be representing the Wrestling program? Write him a letter or email.

But you can't expect to come to cyclonefanatic and expect everyone to agree with you on all things ISU. Especially when wrestling is very much a sport that most people are either totally in, or totally out on.

He should not have said that, completely agree with the reason for bringing it to light, and it does not look great if a parent or recruit is looking into that. Do I think he meant it as hatred or even a slight towards the program or Dresser or the kids? I don't, no.

Doesn't mean our fans are ridiculous, or that your opinion is perfect. Every fanbase has crazies and disagreements on how their athletics should be ran. That's college sports/fandom for you.

Does anyone have a transcription of his comments about wrestling and the meets? I'd like to see the actual quote to decide how bad it comes off.

I'm not a wrestling fan either, but it's likely not something Jamie should have said. He's about the only guy who will stand through a whole cross country meet.

It's fine if Pollard isn't a fan of wrestling, but you can't say that in an interview that the public is listening to. He'd never say that about XC, even though I can guarantee you a much larger portion of Iowa State fans would rather watch a wrestling dual than an entire XC meet...

They are the same. You can choose to throw money at them and win without financial return or not.

I didn't hear Pollard so I don't know what was said. If he said something disparaging about wrestling, then that was dumb. If he said he wasn't a wrestling fan, that's pretty dumb to say.

Regardless of what was said, the fact is sports other than football and men's bball lose money, always will lose money, and dollars you spend on any other sports are expenses that will not generate a return.

Wow, really touched a nerve of the JP mob
Completely support the current staff and what they are doing. Sorry it’s hard for some to understand why ISU wrestling is where it is, though.

I'll take "Non Revenue Generating Sports" for $300, Alex.

Pollard didn't start at ISU until fall of 2005, so the special positions would have been created by, and Cael would have worked for, old whats-his-name.

Fair point, so Jamie "only" gave him his first head coach job

Because I used to take pride that our fans were more knowledgeable than theirs. Now I question that
How is JP not liking his time watching wrestling have anything to do with fans being knowledgeable?
