BYU in Maui next year also.So since this event has signed on with big 12 top 8 teams and Arizona has decided to go to Maui in 2026, does it extend to 9th place? (Assuming Zona is a top half team this season)
Kansas and Houston have long term contracts signed and I believe Iowa State and Baylor are already signed for next year. For everyone else it could be theoretically more than 8 big 12 teams are invited or you might have to finish in the top 4 teams not already signedSo since this event has signed on with big 12 top 8 teams and Arizona has decided to go to Maui in 2026, does it extend to 9th place? Players Era Announces Four Additional Men's Basketball Big 12 Conference Participants in 2026 Field
NEW YORK, JANUARY 22, 2026 – Players Era, an EverWonder Studio company, and the Big 12 Conference today announced that TCU, Texas Tech, Kansas State and West Virginia will round out the eight Big 12 participants in the expanded 2026 Players Era Men’s Championship Field.big12sports.com
So, they aren’t basing invites on standings then? Or is it from last years standings?
I imagine in reality it is Players Era picking the teams they want based on some metrics they feel valuable. I imagine Kansas will always have a standing invite just due to brand. So, they aren’t basing invites on standings then? Or is it from last years standings?
Arizona and BYU already prior to today had said they were contractually locked in to Maui for 2026Coincidence or not, the 2024-25 standings:
1 Houston
2 Texas Tech
3 Arizona
4 BYU
5 Iowa State
6 Kansas
7 Baylor
8 West Virginia
9 TCU
10 Kansas State
The question is if you believe that Arizona and BYU would have declined an opportunity.

BYU doesnt need the money from Player Era so they can do whatever they want for their non conArizona and BYU already prior to today had said they were contractually locked in to Maui for 2026

surprised to see U of A commit financial resources to Maui
my pipe dream napkin math MTE would be rolling Maui, Atlantis, ESPN Events Invite and Players Era into one 32 team field. 8 teams at each site, winner of each site then plays a champ 4 team event in Vegas
Are they choosing K-State for comic relief?I imagine in reality it is Players Era picking the teams they want based on some metrics they feel valuable. I imagine Kansas will always have a standing invite just due to brand.
I heard that at least one team last fall had been scheduled for Maui, but pulled out to play in Players Era.Arizona and BYU already prior to today had said they were contractually locked in to Maui for 2026
Which in the current era of portals & NIL is really kind of pointless. Most major conference teams can have massive roster turnover in just one year, let alone two.I’m fine with that as you’ll have senior laden teams finishing in the top 8 that will be dog **** the following year. But, why say that in the press release from the Big12?
I guess I thought they’d wait until this season concludes and take the top 8 teams. But maybe they wanted a longer notice and are using two seasons prior?
Baylor and Oregon both pulled out of 2025 mauiI heard that at least one team last fall had been scheduled for Maui, but pulled out to play in Players Era.
It's hot out in the desert. They want some Tang for relief . . .Are they choosing K-State for comic relief?
