Players Era

I’ve enjoyed the Players Era. We have played some quality basketball games. I think it is dumb that they have a first place game and a third place game with this format. I’ve just focused on the Clones getting to play three quality games in Vegas. Since Tamin is hurt, I don’t hate the draw.

How was it decided that we play Syracuse? Explanation for the consolation games online was clearly also wrong. We were #5 in overall rankings. This seems completely random.
I’m assuming it had a lot to do with not having a team that played in the evening have to turn around and play in the early time slot and on 12 hours rest.

This is the biggest thing that needs changed IMO with the format. There needs to be a day off between the first 2 games and the 3rd game.

We have no one to blame but ourselves.

The tie breakers were very clear:
Overall record
Head to head
Point differential (20 max per game)
Total points scored
Total points allowed
AP rankings

If the tournament matters, then you score and run it up.

If the tournament doesn’t matter, then you dribble it out.
This 1000%

Honestly that little ******** layup from St. John’s didn’t help either

A solution to this mess, if they continue with this format going forward, would be to have a multiplier for the point differential based on kenpom rankings. That way the teams that play harder teams actually get a benefit of playing harder teams. There has to be a solution to this if they refuse to use a bracket

Syracuse lost in OT to Houston. This game won’t be easy.
They also only beat Monmouth by 5.

This game scares me because 1, it’s not a Q1 one game, and a loss here hurts more than a win helps. Also, 3rd game in 3 days. In the past, this is where some of TJ’s teams have had clunkers

Also, **** the players era organizers for this display of BS, and **** Kansas

I feel like they should just seed the teams prior. Base it on torvik or whatever. If you are going to have 32 teams, just do four 8-team tournaments.

This should have been two separate 8 team tournaments. Leave two teams out and do it right. When you expand, format the competition based on how many games the NCAA allows you to play.

It’s based primarily on scheduling to along with game times from yesterday so teams have similar turnarounds.

I get what you are saying but we are essentially the only team who went 2-0 and gets zero reward for it. We are a better team than KU and they are getting rewards strictly for getting a better draw and even then it took a lucky last second basket and TJ beng too scrupulous to dunk on his mentor. If there is any team/ fanbase that has a legitimate gripe it's us.
There were 5 undefeated teams. They had to have a criteria to select 4 teams. They followed that criteria. The 3rd place game is meaningless anyway.

This is not a legitimate gripe.

The tourney goes to 32 teams next year.

Ah but it's not meaningless. The mistake is screwing teams who performed the same out of more $$.

Their performance against Houston and KU in Vegas is far more relevant than their one close game (a win) among their other low major non conference blowouts. This is a solid team.

Yeah kinda sucked where we ended up but still a chance to go 3-0 with some nice wins. The national media is on to us and if we can win today again without Lipsey going that's a win for the long term.

It's ISU...you guys think we ever get anything easy??

They aren't following this format next year, so complaining about it is kinda pointless. One thing I will say is that this format got more eyeballs on games than any other format. How many fans were paying attention to every game and working out tie breaker scenarios?

I don't know if the format next year is official, but if it is this, it sounds amazing.

2 separate trips to Vegas
8 pods of 4 play round robin
1st place teams play a tournament later
2nd place teams play a tournament
3rd place teams play a tournament
4th place teams play a tournament

This is what is bugging me. That SOB just had to put back a meaningless bucket at the buzzer.
Better than if he had flipped it back out for a crazy quick buzzer beater to tie.

I think the format/criteria is dumb, extremely so when there's money on the line for the players, but it is what it is. I'm thrilled that our program is in a state where we got invited to this thing, have played really well in it, and will likely get invited in the future.

Just like in the college football playoff. This argument assumes they are seeking fairness in the format.

They are seeking tv ratings and $$.
