Paul Clark on KXNO

Like I said, some of what he said was true but why say it? It hurts Iowa State.

Should he just say..."Iowa State probably won't win another game this year so don't waste your time and money going up to the games." That might be true but someone representing Iowa State shouldn't say that.

So would you also criticize Jamie Pollard for his comments on the call-in show Monday night?

Iowa State fans don't center the game around the weekend. He said that 40,000 do, but the remaining 15,000 don't. I think this is pretty obvious
Iowa State fans don't have many hardcore fans.
Same as previous point, about 40,000 hardcore fans, rest are bandwagoners. Can't really argue this point.
Jack Trice Stadium is a piece of junk.
As far as BCS stadiums go, it is clearly at the bottom tier. You really can't argue this either.
Iowa State has no idea how to run concessions.
This is 100% absolutely true. Nobody can argue this and it has been terrible for many years
The Iowa State gameday experience sucks.
They both said that the tailgating is top notch, but the in stadium experience is just ok and needs to be shaken up. Things that "didn't stick" need to move on.
Paul Clark doesn't go to ISU games as a fan.
Meaning he sits in the Press Box, as a member of the media...

Wow

When I listened, 40,000 was never mentioned.

And for the third time, I'm not saying he isn't right but why bring these things up....it does no good at all.

Why not add that the basketball team is going to suck and no one should waste their money on tickets? That's true too but does mean he should broadcast it.

I'd expect this kind of talk from a hawkeye homer or ISU hater but not from a supposed Cyclone-supporter.

Paul Clark is an inspiring ISU advocate... :spinny:

We have been discussing this topic in the Jon Miller Fired thread. The verdict: for many ISU fans it is too late...they do not know the game that has been played on them.
I think the solution is to have them read Hayden Fry's book.

Some of you would only be happy with sunshine blowers. If there was a Jamie Pollard show with Prof. Colbert whispering "Choose your adventure at Iowa State" there would certainly be a woe is me thread.

I appreciate your effort cycloneworld. I am afraid it is a losing battle. Many ISU fans have had their impressionable minds corrupted long ago, they do not even understand what you are saying. Either that, or they need to take some simple marketing classes.

I keep hearing about the concessions. Really? People don't go to games because of concessions? I can understand that a lot of people would want beer in concessions, but you will not find that in any non-NFL stadiums. What else do people want? With the recent renovations, there is very little lines and they have a lot of food options to choose from. What could they offer to put more people in the seats?

telling the truth only hurts if you let and, dont fix the problem. Im sure this is the truth at many bcs universities. the biggest problem is people trying to compare ISU to top tier programs. because as of right now, we are not. we are comparable to the kansas, kstate, baylor, colorados, of the big 12. we could be missouri, okie state level in a few years... we will never have the money Nebraska, or Texas has... so comparing us to them in any aspect of stadium or success is not very smart. so compared to kansas, kstate, baylor, colorado, or missouri does our conessions and stadium suck?
Do you really want the answer to that question? And before you say you do, look at the renovation KU and Mizzou have done. Then look at Folsom Field and its locations (not to mention renovations). Then check out KSU and let me know if they have two open ends. After you have looked at those facilities, you tell me where our stadium ranks in the Big 12. Even Baylor has a semi bowled in endzone

You must have not been to a game recently. Concessions lines are horrible.

Not that concessions should really affect your desire to go to games though...

Are you seriously this moronic?

You keep talking about this game being played on ISU fans. Something tells me you listen to Coast to coast overnight as well. Get off the wildcard line and realize that college athletics means absolutely very little to the rest of the world and you rallying to the cause smells of a deeply distorted, myopic view of yourself, ISU athletics, media and th University.

The whole discussion was started about what can be done to get more people in the stands, not to rip Iowa State at all and anyone who took it that way is entirely too defensive. The 40,000 number was brought up and was originally mentioned by the AD so maybe he doesn't know what he's doing.

And yes, the concessions are horrible. Over the last three years there has never NEVER been one time they haven't been sold out of something I asked for at halftime. That is horrible business. I will still be going to games, as will most of you, but when the casual fan can't get a hot dog or bottle of water early in the third quarter they may think about that the next time they have the option of going to a game

I have been to Baylor, it was horrible, but perhaps the physical stadium was average.
Mizzou is ok, but not much better than JTS.
CU has the mountains, and Boulder is fun if you are just visiting.
KU has a freaking track. The stadium in general is below JTS.

MU CU are better, KU, Baylor worse. After th JTS reconfiguration project, it will be above all four.

Wow

This.

Wow some people's comprehension is...astounding.

This too.

Haha have I really read "cancelling my subscription" ???

I think a few people need a dose of that podcast. Or maybe they just never liked Paul in the first place. That's probably it.

interesting,

well i center my whole week around the game.

i love jack trice - except for the sound system, and team entrance.

conssesions does take awhile, but wouldnt make me stay home.
I like the team entrance better now than like 4 years ago.

College athletics is a billion dollar industry that affects many, many other industries. It is very important to the Iowa economy because unlike other states, Iowa has no professional sports teams. If you don't hink college football means anything, than you should go down south for a month. Yes, pro sporst are bigger on the East Coast and their TV contract is bigger if you think college athletics means very little, you are crazy

Here is some food for thought...ISU averages more per game than Oakland did last year. iowa's average attendance last year would have put them in the top ten in the NFL last year. 32 teams in the NFL, 121 in D1. The top 56 in college averaged more than Oakland.

To be fair, if NFL stadiums had bleachers and scrunched people in every 8 inches like historic kinnick, you'd see A LOT more people at NFL games.

Interesting take for someone on a message board this morning. Your presence on CF despite not being a cyclone fan reeks of insecurity and your posts indicate a severe lack of discernment of the issues being discussed.

You would have a point if this was not a thread about KXNO. In the context of sports talk radio, the impact of bias, needless negative speculation, and general malicious is absolutely valid.

Pathetic, simply pathetic.
