I love Band of Horses so much - it's funny, saw them at Hoyt Sherman 1.5 years ago, and their performances of these were almost upbeat in person? I am pretty positive they'll be on Friday night at Hinterland this summer (since they have a show the next night in IL that they just announced), but I'm curious if they'll be as upbeat there.
Not only do I like Coldplay, but I am emotionally affected by Coldplay songs. This one most of all.
Have you ever heard the Aimee Mann version? I also love it:
The acoustic guitar of Jeff Buckley seems to give it a more airy and melancholy feel I think. Wainwrights is more upbeat as well, so that helps. It also makes me think of Shrek, which is funny and makes me smile.
This is a rather strange entry, but it really hits home. A wonderful song in it's original form, but I personally prefer and get very sad when I hear this version. (Also I love The Muppets).

The second song I'm posting hit me hard on the evening of December 8, 1980. Just graduating from ISU in November I was back home desperately looking for gainful employment. My brother knocked on my bedroom door and told me Lennon had been shot. He didn't know yet whether he was alive or dead. Didn't take long to find out it was fatal. I tuned to KFMH, the local prog rock station, who were already in Beatles/Lennon mode. This song was one of the first played. The lyrics seemed cruelly ironic at that point. And every time I've heard it since that emotion still comes flooding back.
KFMH was such a great station back in the day. I have some very fond memories of Steve Bridges, Carey Peace........I can still tell you the request line number if needed.

I'll throw in a song from Blue October that has some really haunting lyrics about a guy that hates himself for his substance abuse and how it affected his love live. I saw them as an opening act about 15 years ago and really liked some of his lyrics, even if they got a bit emo at times.
His inflection during this breakdown at the end of the song gets me:

For every mistake that I had made

I post a video from a movie on this thread, and I end up watching the movie. It happened with "Hamburger Hill" a couple of weeks ago (the chopper scene with Eric Burden and the Animals background track of "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place").
