On That Note: Mood-elevator

It happened to all of us there. Back in the day I was so excited that James Taylor was coming and I was going to get to see him live. Well it was a half house show and a small show call so I ended up on his bands' dressing room so I wasn't going to get to see - or really hear - any of it. I was a little surly during the first half of the show. Luckily James was doing his own laundry and I was posted right next to the laundry room door so I had a nice little conversation with him during the intermission.

My BIL was at that show and talked about how everyone laughed when James said that he would be back, he had to change his laundry. The BIL was shocked when I was able to confirm for him that Taylor was actually laundering the skivvies during the show.

Side note:
I think 70s Chicago and 80s Chicago should be considered separate bands. Peter Cetera power ballads are a far cry from the original Chicago sound. They sold a lot of records with it though.

Same with 60's/early70's Bee Gees versus SNF/Disco era Bee Gees. I love the early pop stuff. The disco sold bazillions but I much preferred the vintage stuff.

That inspires me to cite another example of Mighty Mighty Bosstones, a couple of years prior. Similar to MeanDean’s sample “The Impression That I Get,” horn section (plus percussion and the chorus) helps infuse uplift and positivity. But lyrics & storyline is introspective, with a smidgen of regret/anxiety/uncertainty.

My closest description of theme here: Hope & Procrastination.

I had a hard time deciding on my favorites. I get an endorphin rush from pretty much any music, so it was a tough decision.

For my first selection I will present this absolute classic. The first I ever heard from The Smashing Pumpkins. The absolute weirdness of the video also made it stick in my mind.

A staple of one my all time favorite albums as well (Siamese Dream) and possibly the only SP song with positive sounding lyrics! Billy can tend to get a little moody.

What do I like to hear when I need a mood elevator?... I came up with a few different songs other than my usual go-to tune ("Sleeping Single In A Double Bed," the happiest sad song ever).
