A suburb of Ames
I think I "liked" Olde Main on Facebook a long while back, and any time they posted an update it was NEVER about beer. Just says so much about their focus.

A lot of posts would be some "get to know the staff" crap, and I remember a bunch of them saying their favorite Olde Main beer was the root beer or something to the effect of "I don't like beer".

They brewed like they didn't like beer. Any beer.

Do they still sell Clone Ale in bottles? If so, now is the time to grab them as keepsakes for the man cave.

So for those who live in the area, what happened to Olde Main? When I left Ames in 2014, it was still vibrant.

It seemed vibrant the last time I visited as well (2017ish). It's just that the beer wasn't very good, but it sounds like food and service have slipped as well.

Seems like a pretty steep fall from only 2ish years ago. I always thought the food was very good. I do remember going back after they did a menu change (2014), but still, I thought it was fairly good.

Does anyone know if Ames Corner Pocket is owned by the same people who own the Corner Pocket in Cedar Rapids?

We liked going there after football games this past year because it often was empty and/or easy to get a table. I suppose I now why it was easy to get a table.

A city like Ames should have a great brewpub in its downtown area.

I really like Barn Town (just a mile from my house) and Big Grove (a few blocks from my daughter's IC apartment when she was in law school there), but Ames should have its own, special place, and not a "clone" of some other establishment.

The same guy owns them all and is a piece of ****.

But he seems like such a good guy

According to an ABD press release, the businesses' owner, Scott Griffin, of Ames, "failed to maintain the requisite good moral character required to hold an alcohol license, in particular a lack of good financial standing."

It is a great building and location. Hopefully someone can take it over and help it live up to it's potential.

I’d have killed for something like Big Grove when i was at ISU. I hate the hawks with a burning passion living in eastern Iowa but BG has an amazing venue, food and beer and am jealous Iowa students have something like that within walking distance from campus.

Old Main has went downhill big time in a matter of 5 years. I'd like to see the guys who run all of those bars in Des Moines come up and do something with that building. Even if they can't sell beer until November, it would probably take that long to remodel.

It does. Alluvial is excellent.

Last time I went to Olde Main, the place was absolutely disgusting. Like they hadn't cleaned in months.

Their beer has always been bad, to really bad.

Is there food at Alluvial? Website makes it seem as though it is just a taproom. It would be nice to have a place with the atmosphere of Big Grove.

They don't do food themselves, unfortunately. Only draw back. They'll have weekend food trucks. It's a beautiful venue, with a very unique atmosphere. Get there.

It's very common to have you business licenses suspended for this. I have a restaurant client that was 6 months behind paying their sales tax deposits and was finally able to convince them they need to get caught up or risk being shut down.
I think the question is why they didn’t fully shut them down. This is a death sentence for a basically dead business. Why leave it partially open.
