I agree with you. Only fans of the teams care about these games, and even then only smaller/less prestigious ones truly care. I have only bet on one game this bowl season and watched zero, simply due to the fact it's impossible to predict who's going to try hard.@isufbcurt How is that dumb? The 4 team playoff has rendered every other bowl irrelevant. It has basically made the regular season irrelevant for 95% of teams playing.
Does anyone remember that K-State played in an Alamo Bowl? Does anyone care? Bowls are great for the teams that get to play in them, but they are an afterthought for most fans who watch because they are home for the holidays.
People are taking off work to watch the NCAA tournament. Nobody took the day off to watch the Duke's Mayonnaise Bowl. (Which was an awesome game to watch, btw)
If the stakes were higher in these games, players wouldn't sit out and they would actually be watchable. I have no idea how to change any of that, but anything short of turning the CFP into some kind of weeks long madness like in CBB doesn't seem likely to work. Maybe make it so that the bowl payout only goes to the team that wins? That would hold somebody's feet to the fire and we wouldn't get the poor loser quotes from the Florida coach at the end of the day.
