With the exception of the top players (5*) the rankings hold very little value.
Not true. Go look at the 2008-2009 team rankings. Go compare that to the AP Top 25. It's nearly identical

Disclaimer: Im not flaming on CPR or saying i know more than he does.....so no need for the Sunshine and Rainbows Jihad to come out......
But im looking at our football commits....and
A) Not exactly world beater recruits
B) Didnt exactly beat out any good teams to get these kids
Heck...couple had ZERO other offers. Couple others we beat out teams that i wasnt even sure if they had a d1 level program.
What am i missing? I thought we'd have some good recruiting momentum....im not expecting 4 or 5 star talent....just curious why the length of time to get anyone, but then we get some pretty mediocre players to sign.

hah....oh i know....thus the reference to the Sunshine and Rainbows Jihad that resides on the bored.
Im not trying to offend.....just curious as to whats going on with that aspect of it.
Basketballl has momentum.....thus...Morris and Thomas signing.....figured football would have the same.

Oh crap...i shoulda figured....didnt see anything on the bored.
It holds meaning for those top programs. What about teams 26-75 which is where we fall typically? Do the rankings correlate?
Those rankings have much less meaning outside of the top programs who get the top talent imo.
The thing is, when you point out that recruiting is not going well people come back with ISU will never
Holy god...grow thicker skin nancy.
You are the one getting all bent because someone made a little joke out of your poor spelling.
I would say they generally hold true for teams in the top 40-50. Are there outliers? Sure. But for the most part if you recruit talent, you win more.
We as ISU fans like to bring up Knott and Klein. That's great, that's 2 players out of the many that play that are All Big 12 players that were undervalued. And how many of those have we had in the past decade? It's tough to find a lot of diamonds in the rough.
I love CPR. Huge man crush on him. I just think it's an honest question to ask why recruiting has been so much a struggle after the big wins we had last year. We should have a lot of momentum.
The thing is, when you point out that recruiting is not going well people come back with ISU will never get a lot of 4 and 5 star talent. But that is not what people are expecting. I think people expect that after three years they start seeing higher ranked three star recruits signing, maybe a 4 star or two in a class, or maybe some 3 stars with good offer lists.
People are aware of the recruiting limitations but that does not mean they can't improve. I think last year they were ranked in the 70s on rivals for their class. If they can just move up to around 50 it would be a great improvement and something I think they should be doing after three years.
What good is beating the #2 country on national TV if you can't turn it in to getting better recruits?
It was intentional....relax.
