My wife mentioned this story to me and I hadn't ever heard it. It does make sense as it sounds like it could be a Meatloaf song. I wouldn't change it though, her voice in singing that song was incredible.

I’ve never been a fan of Jim Steinman’s horrendously bombastic approach to songwriting, and Total Eclipse Of The Heart is pretty much the golden example of it, so I cringed every time it was on heavy rotation back in ‘83. The cheesy approach the director took for the music video doesn’t help; the overly gothic appearance and the taking-itself-far-too-seriously vibe is just not good.

Much like the Bad Lip Sync version of Rebecca Black’s “Friday,” however, we did get the literal version of the Total Eclipse video, so there’s that - two of the funniest music video deconstructions ever.

I would be interested to hear Meatloaf sing that song. I could see it working really well.

My romance with Mrs. Velo #1 started in high school when we were paired up to sing and dance together by our choral instructor for this number in swing choir.

She had a great voice but Total Eclipse is probably my least favorite song ever. Immediate channel change when it comes up on radio or 80s playlist. Maybe because I was alive when it was out and it was played constantly plus the video was horrible.
