*** Official SELECTION SUNDAY Thread ***

One of the guys on CBS just picked our region and had Michigan vs Purdue in the Elite Eight. LOL

Michigan has had an excellent surge in past month. It's going to end in first weekend.

A co-worker who's a major U-M fan is upset that Minnesota got a 5, Maryland got a 6 and Michigan got a 7. Could those teams all be 6 seeds? Perhaps. We have good discussions about bracketology throughout the year, but his misunderstanding about the process and overall body of work shows itself at times. This is an example.

Man the media is pissed Syracuse didn't make it in.

Boeheim was fairly level-headed/bygones-bygones about the "snub" during the interview I saw. Dickie-V's tirade was ridiculous, possibly the most pro-ACC shilling I've seen from him, which is saying something. I thought he was gonna p*** his pants.

Could you make an argument for SU to get in, compared to maybe WF/KSU/USC? Heck yes. Was it an egregious omission? No.

Minnesota didn't deserve a 5 though.

I honestly don't even think Michigan will beat OSU. Both have been hot but OSU has been tested more.

I agree, 5 is too high. It's almost like they wanted to overseed some team enough to get the 5-12 upset odds higher

Has Minnesota been rated this year? And they were 4th in the big10, right? Guess I think a 5 for them compared to SMU or Cincy is surprising somewhat. But maybe their SOS was high.

I think the committee was very favorable to the Big 12:

3 teams in the Midwest bracket

Kansas State earned the play-in game over potentially Syracuse

Baylor playing first & second round games in Tulsa

WVU may have received the worst draw playing in Buffalo and that may actually be the closest to Morgantown compared to the other 4-seed locations (Milwaukee & Orlando). The bummer is that if they advance to the sweet 16 they would be playing in San Jose.

Let's hope the Big 12 can do well to continue to earn that respect from the tournament committee in the years to come.

Here's a decent analysis from Norlander at CBS Sports

Six seedings the committee got wrong

Thoughts? Other teams inaccurately seeded in addition to his list?

I agree with arguments about Wichita State being seeded to low. I slotted WSU as a 9 seed, because I truly thought that's how the resume would be viewed. I wouldn't have been surprised if it was an 8. On "Mike & Mike" today, Bilas said "Wichita State is a 5 seed. They're that good." But "being that good" and evaluating body of work aren't always the same thing. (Iowa State has been playing like a 3 seed lately, but got a 5 seed, which is about right.)

But Bilas thought Duke should be a 1 seed. I don't know when to believe Bilas or when he's full of crap.

I think Syracuse got a lot of attention because, partly, big-market traditional power, plus has been on fringe the past two seasons, controversially in last season, left out this year. Also, Boeheim always has something to say when bubble is involved, so everyone knew it's a reliable interview.

Did I see it correctly though, wasn't Syracuse the final team on "First Four out" list? Below even Iowa? Nobody's talking about those other teams, possibly because there appeared to be consensus assumption SU would get an invite.
