It’s not easy to get sacks, but #1 and #7 all time in the Big 12 did it in Heacock’s defense. So it can be done.

I think we're safe in saying that Ezeogu is no Will McDonald, but most people aren't.
But safe to say that if a guy gets 3 sacks in 3 seasons in the defense that JaQuan Bailey generated 25.5 sacks he isn’t an edge guy that PSU typically has.

The portal "closing" is just when guys can no longer enter it. But everyone who enters before the closing can wait as long as August to officially transfer.
I imagine we will want to grab guys early enough to enroll for the spring semester, but I think that technically could be a couple more weeks, since guys can enroll after missing the first week of classes and those start on the 20th.
j/w where we sit scholarship wise/how many spots filled or left to go? Which players are we targeting?
My first thought was "we can't have much money left for a guy like this". Then it dawned on me how big an advantage it must be for players to enter the portal early and sign somewhere ASAP because everybody is probably running low on $$ by the end of portal season.

Blum talked about this too and suggested the moneyball approach was not to go into bidding wars early for positions that end up with a glut of guys remaining at the end (like RB). The longer you stay in the portal, the more your price drops.
The early bidding wars are best fought over the positions that are harder to fill: OL and DL.

That was the basis for the switch to the 3-3-5. Allegedly, CMC wrote "3 DL" on a whiteboard in the defensive coaches meeting and said "that's how many defensive line guys we can play, figure out a defense with that" or something along those lines.
It’s nice to see the players today are so young they only associate Iowa State with winning seasons, and either don’t know or don’t care about our true historical past
